And reading Bev's post, it is probably because I was doing it wrong but I really did hate doing it. I used to do it in my regular gym sessions for about 5 minutes, at which point I would have to stagger away because my back would be aching like crazy and I couldn't go anymore.
I can do other cardio machines for WAY longer than I could row.
We have a rowing machine here at my house, and I won't go near it.
Looks like Bev has some good advice for you, though, so you're in good hands!

Thanks Steph! Sorry you experienced that problem, but I blame it on the instructors at your gym. I doubt they would know how to properly row anyway, but they should at least watch you and make sure you're not using your back during the drive. It's EXTREMELY hazardous to your back! Everyone who uses them MUST be properly instructed not to drive with their backs! Oy.....
Sorry for ranting. Having gotten it out of my system, Steph, please don't give up on rowing; it's an EXCELLENT exercise and a lot of fun. The problem is getting proper instructions. Do you have a rowing club near you up there? A coach or experienced rower could come out and show you how to use that rowing machine properly, and you'd actually find you enjoy it. It's such a shame, such a waste....
