Hi Everyone!

I am new to the Board, and so excited to talk to other people with IBS.
I am newly diagnosed with IBS and Lactose Intolerance and have been very sick for quite a few months now. I know you all must feel my pain...lol!
I am reading Heather's two books, and they have been sooooo helpful!! Thank you, Heather. There is just one subject I haven't found very much information on. Many people experience weight loss with IBS and the other bowel diseases and disorders, due to diarrhea, etc..
However, I have not really found much information for people who are overweight and NEED to lose weight properly.
I have lost 76 pounds on the South Beach Diet in a year, with a diet of lots of fresh vegetables and fruits, cheeses, yogurt; everything I CAN'T eat now!! I still have another 30 pounds to lose.

Is anyone on any type of nutritionally sound, weight loss plan to lose weight dealing with IBS?

Thanks,

Sunni

Welcome Sunni! Check out "Shell Marr's personal IBS and fitness story link" there is a sticky note at the top of this board. I've kinda taken a break from my daily reporting in just cuz I've been SO busy.... but I'm still at the gym 6 days a week and my diet it on track (except the chocolate when I'm PMS'ing...hehehe) and I'm still shrinking/toning....

Hi there,

I think reading Shell's story is a GREAT place to start, she is a real inspiration because she did manage to lose a really significant amount of weight in a HEALTHY way.
One of the most important things is going to be exercise. It will be beneficial for your weight loss, but also for your IBS.
One of the good things about going off of something like the South Beach diet is that by eliminating things like yogurt and cheese you are helping your tummy, and taking some potentially high fat foods in your diet.
You can still eat fruits and vegetables, just have to find some creative ways of preparing them so that your tummy isn't bother.
You don't have to eat all carbs, but carbs are your fuel and they are important for long term weight loss. Eating soluble fiber before more "risky" foods will protect your tummy and if eaten in moderation should be no problem for your weight.

Good luck!!
