Hi all,

So the last couple of days I haven't had time to do all my reports, but I still have been doing well. I went to the gym every day except Thursday-Friday, but I did cardio on Thursday at home. Friday I took the day off.
Food wise I've been doing alright, but as soon as I am not careful I end up dropping way low on calories.. so that's not been great the last few days. Ooops.

So today I went back to the gym..

Activities: 7 mins on the bike, twice around the weight circuit, 10 mins of sit ups and then 10 more minutes on the bike = 240 calories burned

Breakfast: Apple Granola Bar = 192 calories

Lunch: Mango Rasperry Fruit Bar = 210 calories (bad, bad lunch)

Snack: Starbucks blended lemonade drink = ???

Dinner: Going out for dinner and I plan to have roasted potatoes, grilled chicken and maybe one drink. It's Saturday!!

And for my weigh in.........

I gained 1.5 lbs since last Saturday! Whoopsie! Oh well, I didn't really think I'd lose any in the first week and I figure that I can call those 1.5 lbs water weight or anything else.. my weight tends to go up and down up to 5.5 lbs in ONE DAY.
I know it will take longer than one week to see any results, though, so I am not stressing.

Cheers!
--Steph

IBS-A for 20 years with terrible bloating and gas. On the diet since April 2004. Remember this from Heather's information pages:
"You absolutely must eat insoluble fiber foods, and as much as safely possible, but within the IBS dietary guidelines. Treat insoluble fiber foods with suitable caution, and you'll be able to enjoy a wide variety of them, in very healthy quantities, without problem." Please eat IF foods!

Yikes! What a nasty day. I have a rude case of edema--SWELLING: ankles, legs, belly; EVERYTHING. Plus I'm C from taking too much Peptobismal! I've been using a lot of salt and salt products and I think I beyond over-did it.
My legs are watermelons--it's spooky.

So...here's what I've consumed so far, today:

--3 jello cups (3 x 1/2 c.)
--water, over 2L; 1/2 pot coffee; 4 cups tea.
--1 L broth

--2 plates zucchini
--spinach/herbs
--2 plates portabella mushrooms
--12 yellow cherry tomatoes
--4 small heads of lettuce
--a green onion

NO MORE LETTUCE FOR ME. I hate it and I feel waterlogged.
I don't know how to manage this HUGE problem other than drinking lots. I might take some MILK OF MAGNESIA and rid myself of this agony--I feel like a bag of **** !!!

Potential snacks later? Probably some Cran-Grape juice spritzers. AND DEFINITELY more water and/or tea!!! Maybe more jellow, too. I am such a huge fool. When will I see my knee caps again??? I give up.

Kate.

not sure if i remembered everything - stopped writing things down around dinner. i think this is it.

and i can i also say: these thomas' mini bagels - they have more protein than a soy yogurt, less fat, and fewer calories. that's some sort of tricky miracle.

okay.

mini bagel w/ soy cream cheese
banana

pb&j
baby food jar of bananas & berries
soy milk
3oz dried papaya

sweet potato 'chips' w/ ketchup

luna bar
1 piece dried papaya

2 glasses of half sprite half cranberry juice
(at a party, and feeling a little queasy - the burping from the carbonation always makes me feel better. and there was no air conditioning.)

that's 1940. would've been much nicer without the soda & juice.

walked to work at the museum today, 30 minutes. also stood for 7 and a half hours! not that that counts for much activity, but it just had to be said. yay second job saturdays.

had a bout of lacking inspiration this weekend, mostly brought about by my own 'slipping.' was thinking of stopping posting, stopping being *so* precise. generally discouraged and about to do the giving up after three days thing that is my specialty. counting calories so precisely can be disheartening when i eat more that i meant to. but keeping track, here and in my food diary and on that crazy fitday website, makes me stay accountable. if i have to face up to it, and post even when i mess up, maybe i'll be less likely to overeat. it only really happens when i'm home alone (unhealthy relationship to food alert), and if i make myself post here, then someone still sees me. not that it's good that left to my own devices i'd overeat. but i think you know what i mean. i guess i just need the support.

and now my cat is sitting on my shoulders and kneading the back of my neck. life isn't too bad.

okay, now she's digging her claws into my head.

and now she's asleep.

It's just one of those freaky edema reactions. My doctor told me to use LOTS OF SALT as I have dangerously low sodium/chloride levels and I think I overdid it. No, I NOW KNOW I OVERDID IT! Also, I ate too much lettuce which is all water and I was walking around full of salt water all day long. I'M NEVER EVER EVER CONSUMING RAW LETTUCE ever again. I felt like a cesspool!

The day before I did some Pho for lunch and it gave me torrential D. So, no wonder my body wanted to hang on to every bit of fluid!

I'm better today. I think what cured me yesterday was the litre of Cran-Grape light cocktail spritzers I downed. Holy pee-a-thon! That and tons of herbal tea.

Honestly, I was trying to be who I used to be with the salad, or rather lettuce binge. (Anorectic)

Once again, my tossed salad days are over.

Kate.

thanks!

Do you find that you have better BMs when you eat more high IF foods without the SF as a buffer? I noticed in another post that you said you eat whole grain breads too. I am thinking of just eating IF now since this diet doesn't seem to be helping my constipation that well. So, I was wondering if you have "abandoned" the white foods and gone on you own with eating more whole grains, fruits with peels on them, etc, all without a SF base beforehand? Like your cereal and plum for your first meal of the day...that's a lot of IF. I suppose the Acacia could be considered your SF though.

I find that eating a SF base before my IF foods makes me too full to eat enough IF which in turn makes me more constipated. I'm scared to try the new appoach though. What are you doing now? Has it helped you with the C?

Thanks.

Hi littlebear! Would you mind sharing your recipes for macaroni and pizza? I've never been able to get a good recipe for either one that's vegan/organic and they both sound so good right now! Thanks!

first i boiled some water adding a pinch of salt and a tiny-bit of organic olive oil. once the water was boiling, i added in my noodles [i used organic twisty noodles but forgot the name ] i let it boil on HIGH HEAT until it bubbled once, then reduced to 6-7 heat, and then reduced again, to 3-4 heat. after the noodles are very done and plump [cooking them longer wont burn them--it only makes them fatter and yummier!] drain them with a strainer and toss them back in the pot. add in about 1 TSP/earth balance NON-GMO vegan margarine [such a long name] a little plain soymilk and shred lots of FOLLOW YOUR HEART VEGAN CHEDDAR CHEESE. add a TEENY! amount of olive oil just for a little flavor [even though the oil is a trigger, its an omega-3 fatty acid that you need and its the healtiest oil to choose from] once all the mac-n-cheese goodness is in your pot, put it back on your burner and increase heat to HIGH again, stirring continuously. eyeball it whenever you feel its down. put it in a bowl to eat and add a pinch of salt. i added chopped tomatoes on top which was really yummy too! i hope it turns out good!! i was in such a little-kid mood to make macaroni let me know how you like it--bye!

youre welcome

im glad that you asked me those questions! i find that i have BMs when i take my acacia and psyllium every day. there were a few days in europe i went without one or the other and that was when i did have a little trouble.

i wouldnt say that ive abandan eating white-bread foods, i just dont eat them very often. when i go to whole foods, i get really excited about all the healthy things they have to eat. i used to be really reserved about my diet but since becoming a vegan, im choosing to be healthy and eating what i want. with vegan and organic food, you never have to worry if something is safe/unsafe. the word safe shouldnt mean whether or not a food will upset you. it should mean literally, whether or not a food is safe to eat [ie: no presservatives or chemicals or bovine growth hormones] i guess ive kind of kicked aside the boundries i built on food. while on vacation i let myself have more of the foods i stayed away from, and more of them then i would usually take. i was eating hummus made from fresh chick peas and fresh olive oil. and i ate peaches and pears and little plums and all with skins!! even in amsterdam i had falafels [middleastern dish] and vegan brownies and salad!! it rocked. but europe does differently with their farming. and i dont think theyve gotten to the level america has with its food preservation. but seriously--everything that goes in, comes out.

i found also that i was naturally very busy. i didnt have time to worry if i was staying inside of my diet plan. if you eat everything fresh from the earth, its guarenteed safe. of course you should do whatever approach you feel is comfortable, seeing as how this IS america and not the meditaranian!! obviously everything cant be fresh 24/7--but if you live near whole foods, go there and shop around for your usual foods, but try to find zestier versions, or more savory, or more fruitful and tasty. its much more easier to eat when you make your own shopping list ciao!

I've often contemplated the same thing. Worth a try, I think. Need the IF to keep things moving.
Since I can't eat more than 1 cup at a time, SF just fills me up. I always take SFS before eating (2g/meal).

Have you had the nerve to try this yet? I went to the store to look at the cereals Little Bear eats and they have about 11 grams of IF fiber in them! I chickened out and didn't buy. They looked yummy, yummy...but the whole flax seeds, and all the IF scared me too much. It's hard to teach an old dog new ideas after reading the boards for so long.

I want to be brave enough to try it though! Let me know how you do and if you do it!

I still need a little SF w/ questionable meals. I can tell the difference w/ even cooked veggies, but I don't use much.
IE: 1/4 c SF to 3/4 c IF.

I don't do cereals but live on protein shakes w/ rice milk. IBS safe and full of protein. Can't beat it.
