How do other calculate that out?

Log on and then click on the "Activities" tab on the left. You can then search for any activity, or use the common list. Once it's come up, put in the number of hours and minutes you did that and it'll adjust your calorie output accordingly.

Actually I don't think you can input custom activities into fitday. That said, it has about a million activities in there already - did you search? Are you sure your activity isn't there? (Just out of curiosity, what are you looking for?)

If it's not though, the only number fitday uses for each activity is calories burned per minute, and the database has activities that burn from 1/2 a calorie/min and upwards. So, if you can't find the activity you're looking for, find one that you think would be of similar exertion and go with that. I have no idea how you'd calculate exactly how many calories you burn per minute on an exercise that's *not* in fitday (unless you had a calculator that goes right on your body), so you'll just have to estimate.

Hope that helps!

Thanks. I'm looking for the eliptical trainer. I do that a lot.

Try going to http://www.calorieking.com/tools/exercise_calories.php and typing in your weight and the duration of the exercise (mins). It will come up with a big list of sample exercises and elliptical trainer is on there. Here it will tell you the number of calories you burn doing that activity for that amount of time. Then I'd go back to fitday and just use running or something: find a similar speed that will get you as close to the number of calories burned as possible.
