Hey guys! So I used to swear by the Weight Watchers thing- and I was confused with Han Solo abandoned it and her weight loss took off, and more confused when Weight Watchers wasn't doing anything for me. So I gave up. I started eating a lot more. I mean, still avoiding crazy high fat foods and not eating out, but a fair bit more calories. Now, I'm totally losing weight like crazy. I think the difference is that when I did Weight Watchers before it was during the school year and I had no time to exercise. Other than some walking, I didn't move hardly at all. Now I'm working out six days a week and my body must have decided I was starving myself.

So, the good news is: I have lost 6 pounds and have 6 to go!!!

I haven't been checking in with food because I stopped counting it, but I will check in with exercise because I can be a lazy sloth and need accountability to make sure I do get to the gym.

Good girl! I'm glad I'm not the only one who chucked WW out the window! Isn'T it amazing to do your own thing and see the results?!!!!!!!! I'm so proud of you!!!!!!!!!! Keep taking in your calories and working out. It's the secret. WW is too full of fruits and veggies we CAN'T tolerate. It just doesn't fit with us. The calories and exercise makes MUCH more sense. I can't tell you how happy I am for you. Keep it up. The summer is a perfect time to bump up your exercise. Keep it going. MY SECRET?!!! Eat several times a day with VERY small portions. That's all the change I needed. Try it!!!! No big meals. No meals at all. Only small snacks. Excellent work, sweetheart! Hugs, and hugs and hugs!!!!!! Alicia!!!!!!!

Yeah, actually I think I have good suggestions for you. So, four times a week I try to do cardio- I'm a runner so I'll run on the treadmill for varying amounts of time and speed (some days I'll run 60 min @ 5.5 mph, some days I'll run 40 min @ 6 mph and walk 20 min @ 4 mph). Some days I get sick of the stupid treadmill and I run for 20, use an elliptical for 20, use a bike for 20. Basically I do 60 minutes of some high impact cardio.

Then, once a week I work out with my trainer. He's a functional trainer, which means that he's not interested AT ALL in making me super muscle girl. We use hardly any of the machines in the gym, and in fact we make fun of the big burly guys who have deformed their bodies. We work on core stabilization (making the abs, glutes, etc strong), balance, and strength. So I do all kinds of weird things. I do lunges with medicine balls, or hop back and forth like a speed skater, crunches on balls, I stand on one foot on wobbly objects and raise and lower a medicine ball from one foot to the air (with rotation) and not fall over. I do what looks like Riverdance hopping up and off a step. He's shown me lots of exercises to do, so on the other two days Eric and I just pick a variety of the exercises (making sure to work all areas) and do those for an 1:15 or so.

To tell you the truth I was suspicious of the effectiveness of my trainers exercises (because they're SO WEIRD), but I have little biceps now and I can run a lot further and faster without getting sick or tired, so he knows what he's doing.

I'm sure I would look even better and have lost even more weight if I were more consistant about doing the functional during the week.

Apparently there are DVDs out there- he cites this guy Juan Carlos Santana a lot, if you google him you can find them. The DVD's seem pretty expensive though.

haha your exercises definitly sound interesting.

I was doing the 20/20/20 thing for awhile.. but I'm not sure how many times a week you have to do it for it to be effective.

I read stuff that say you can lose weight doing 30mins of cardio 3X a week in self and shape... but i've also heard you need more like an hour 5 times a week.

so confused.

According to the recent health officials it's 90 mins of exercise a day to lose weight (without adjusting your diet). I asked my trainer and he says that's true- not necessarily 90 min at the gym, but walking, or cleaning the house, or gardening too.

I'm not sure 30 min would do much. But I don't know, they change their minds all the time, these health officials.

The amount of cardio you need to do to lose weight *really* varies per person... some can definitely do that 30 mins 3x per week and that's all they need, while others need a lot more, and still others can get by on less. Even with fitness athletes it varies. Of course weight loss is also going to depend on your diet, genetics and body composition (body fat % vs. muscle mass). So you kind of just have to experiment until you find a balance that works for you.

I know and its incredibly annoying!!

I had one trainer tell me that 60 mins five times a week is way too much!

they need to pick one and stick to it.
