I just started a competition with my family, and began using Heather's recipes for my IBS. I have to lose 18lbs by September 15th. So how do you report in? I could use some advice. What are good snacks for the day time, i'm on a sit down job, with plenty of spare time to munch. any healthy, ibs safe ones? Pretzels good? Jewell

Pretzels aggravate me for some reason. Animal crackers are okay for me though, and gingersnaps. Gotta watch the calories though!

Just find the post of Shell's for the today's date and then repply to it with your post. It is up to you what you want to say; things like your diet, exercise, weight, water intake are good.
I do eat pretzels. I try to measure them out so I am not eating many servings worth. One thing I eat that is low in cals are cooked and cooled baby carrots. But that might be gross to some. Also there are these puff pastry twists at the store that are weight watchers approved and have 60 cals each. Low fat graham crackers and lite canned fruit and regular fresh fruit are good. Make cals count by eating the most filling things you can for that calorie count. Luna bars have 170-180 cals but are filling. Drink lots of water. Good luck!

IBS-A for 20 years with terrible bloating and gas. On the diet since April 2004. Remember this from Heather's information pages:
"You absolutely must eat insoluble fiber foods, and as much as safely possible, but within the IBS dietary guidelines. Treat insoluble fiber foods with suitable caution, and you'll be able to enjoy a wide variety of them, in very healthy quantities, without problem." Please eat IF foods!

What Tamara (Little Minnie) said!
I buy snack sized bags of pretzels and keep fruit cups in my desk at work.
Welcome to our boards, looking forward to reading your reports soon. Remember that exercise is important for weight loss and health so get out there and get moving too, rather than simply starving yourself. If you munch a lot at work then think before you eat, and ask yourself if you are munching out of boredom or because you are hungry!

Good luck!

Welcome! The others have listed some good, safe snack ideas. I snack a lot on fresh fruits and veggies but I know some raw fruits and veggies are triggers for most. Bananas are usually OK, though, and unsweetened applesauce cups are good to bring to work. My blender has this cool "to go" cup that attaches to the blade so I can make a single size smoothie in it and take it to work. Also, you can make muffins out of Heather's bread recipes and it makes it easier to eat just one serving Plus muffins are easier to pack than slices of bread. Good luck with your goal!
