Runners with D?

Lately I've been jogging a lot for my exercise, but I've heard that that can cause you to have D (which I am).

I'm just wondering if there's any other D's out there that run, or do most of you find it too jarring an exercises?

Thanks for your input,
Myra

Hiya,
I can't tell you anything from my OWN experience but my mom is a big runner, and I've talked to her about this before. She runs every day, and does marathons and stuff like that.
She says that when she does really run HARD, sometimes it will give her D.. and she has no stomach problems.
I think the key is to know your limits and run at a pace that is comfortable for you and your tummy.
Also, if your tummy is stable before you run the better off you'll be.
Good luck!

So have any D'ers out there tried running and found out that it made things worse?
This would be really helpful for me to know, too.

Thanks,
Myra

Please don't take the last post, wrong!
Your responce was actually quite helpful, I just wanted to see if there's anyone else out there with thoughts on the matter.

Ok, again, this doesn't happen to me, but I have a friend who gets D when she runs sometimes...I used to frequent some running boards (I don't run as much as I used to, darn knees!) and it was pretty common actually. But I never got a good idea of what causes it.....

Hey Myra,

I wasn't around today to answer this yet- Fridays are my busiest day! I am a runner with problems with D. I have run a half marathon in the past. I agree that it can/does make my problems worse. I always tried to run the first mile in a park with plenty of bathrooms because I knew I was going to need one. After that first mile I was usually ok, though I would bring some immodium with me just in case. It is also important, for me, to avoid gatoraide or sports drinks with chemicals. I found a natural sports drink juice blend I watered down and used. Ultimately, I felt I just had to push through the D and the cramps and they would go away after a mile or two. Hope this helps!
