Hi,
There are lots of past threads on bloating so you might want to try a search for that.

From everything I've read on this board it seems to me like bloating is probably the hardest of all IBS symptoms to completely control. There are lots of things you can do to ease it a bit (exercise, fennel tea, not over eating, being active after meals, yoga etc) but there doesn't seem to be a sure way fire way of really controlling it.

I suffer from it myself and it is so uncomfortable. I live for night time at the moment when I can put on a comfy old nightie that doesn't press on my tummy at all.

I really feel for you and know what you're going through. I hope it eases up for you soon,
Kerrie

I personally find peppermint tea and even a hot water bottle on the tummy helps (most of the time, and sometimes it seems as if nothing can help!)

Fennel tea is great for gas and bloating. Peppermint tea is excellent as it can actually dull the pain. Sometimes walking after a meal can help a lot. As can any light exercise. Eat slowly, chew thoroughly. That can also reduce gas "intake".

I am not sure whether you suffer from IBS C or D but I worked in natural medicine for 3 years and one of the things that I learned that has helped me the most with gas and constipation is a heating pad, wool cloth and castor-oil. Put some castor oil on a wool cloth then place the cloth on your tummy. On top of that, place a bath towel then the heating pad (the towel prevents the oil from saturating your heating pad). Lay down for 45 minutes. You should notice some gas movement within your tummy. Do this for a few days if necessary twice a day. This helps any congestion and mucus pass that may have been produced by bread or dairy products. And remember to drink your tea. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

This works wonders, I used to have bad bladder spasms and couldn't go to the bathroom and my mom was the one that told me to do this and it worked. Also it relaxes you.

Hi Niki
I've been on the IBS Diet for almost 2 months and I'm still having so much trouble. I'm on holidays this week and I've been sick most of the time, oh well at least I didn't have to miss any work. I'm having a really rough day today. I go see a Nutrionist tomorrow and I'm hoping she will be able to help me. I'll let you know what she has to say. When I'm like this all I can do is drink tea and maybe have some Cream of Wheat.

Does anybody know of anything to help with intestinal gas/bloating besides Charcoal capsules?
Apparently, Phasyme doesn't help with intestinal gas.

Thanks!

silly question in reqards to this, does it 1-have to be castor oil (what exactly is the benefit of this oil as opposed to like peppermint oil), and can it be any cloth, assuming that wool absorbs more, but wasn't sure if there is some kind of benefit of the material also.

thanks

Yes, it has to be castor oil as it helps break down congestion and mucus. The wool cloth helps it penetrate.
