Hi! This is my first post - hope I am in right place. I am planning a 3 week visit to Austria soon - the land of butter and cream. I have been following IBS diet since April with very few "events" of D, so am feeling success at home. (Fortunately, I can tolerate soy products well.) Travel in North America, and eating in restaurants seems OK so far (could use some tips for making food more interesting) - but I am scared about this upcoming trip to Austria. Any help out there?

Welcome to the boards! You can do a board search by hitting the search button at the top of the page. We have discussed travel in Europe often. Other than doing your best, and asking the waiter/waitress politely specifics and ask for grilled/poached/baked things with oils and stuff on the side.

Welcome, Hanni! Ooo, a trip to Austria?! Sounds fabulous! I think Heather says to tell waiters you need "low-fat, no red meat, no dairy" as a start!
Good luck on the trip!

Good advice. I will continue to read in Heather's 2 books, these pages and the newsletter, too. It is reassuring to know that others have travelled successfully. I want this to be a really fun trip! Thanks for your loving support, hanni

Hanni- I am moving to Belgium for a year (in about 5 days!!) so I am getting a little bit nervous. I haven't quite stabilized myself yet so I better work on that. Anyways, just wanted you to know you aren't alone in your travels. (Apparently I'll be going to Egypt in November! :0 Anybody know what they eat in Egypt??)
