Since my IBS symptoms have gotten so much worse in the last year or so, I notice a couple of weird symptoms. Often when I'm sitting or lying down, I will suddenly start having this feeling that my stomach is kind of jumping. It actually feels kind of like a heartbeat, but it's definitely not my heart that's doing it. It happens above the belly button area rather than in the intestinal area. I figure it's some kind of spasm, but it is so strong. Really unnerving.
Secondly, I recently have noticed that whether I'm D or C or somewhere in between, I feel like I've been punched in the gut or like I have exercised too much. Sort of like I did way too many sit-ups--but I didn't! Just feel bruised. Is this related to intestinal spasms? Am I actually getting sore muscles?
I'm really curious if anyone else has these symptoms. I never had them until this year.
Thanks!

I've had the muscle spasms jumping muscle thing on and off for years... the first few times it freaked me out as I couldn't find an explanation... if I've taken my antispasmodics it goes away... so its definitely spasms... but there isn't any rhymeor reasons to when I get them... though when I'm mostly ok overall I don't get them as often as when I have been having bouts of issues...

Don't have them but the first thing I thought of was an antispasmodic. I take Bentyl. Keep us posted okay?

Is Anaspaz a prescription drug? Are there any natural antispasmodics (other than peppermint oil, which works sometimes for me but not always)? I am really sensitive to most drugs and have a hard time taking them.
Also, I haven't had an upper endoscopy done recently, but I don't seem to have any GERD symptoms. Worth asking the doc about though. I've tried to tell him about my jumpy stomach and sore muscles though and he just ignores it--at least my regular GI doc does. I am going to an alternative practitioner (MD), and I'll have to see what he thinks.
Thanks for the help!

I have often felt in the last few weeks like someone has punched me in the gut. It feels bruised and painful. Sometimes it gets worse after I eat. I had a doctor say she thought I had GERD, probably because of the naseau I was having, but when I looked it up on the internet I did not feel like I had any of the symptoms of GERD.
