WORST NIGHT OF MY LIFE

I know that all of us IBSers have bad days, but yesterday...I felt like dying.

I first started out bloated where I could almost feel the gas coming out of my mouth. I took some Benefiber and about two hours later went out with my friends. The Benefiber apparently made the bloating worse, and now, I woke up with really bad constipation. My question is: What do you people to for really bad constipation and bloating? Thanks.

I am so sorry to hear of your terrible night. I am also having a really bad time!!
For the bloating I drink lots of cups of tea - peppermint, fennel...do some yoga postures that stretch out my gut (backward bend, cobra)..and tell myself that it is time bound and it WILL pass at some point. Its a bugger. It really is.

I have found the hot pack to be really helpful in relieving bloating and its discomfort. Lay prone and apply it directly on your abdomen, as hot as you can stand it. Don't know quite why it helps, but it does.

If I'm at home I will try a walk around the block, some stretches, a hot bath, drinking lots of water. Sometimes it will go away by the next morning or after my next meal. Until then though it's a real pain and can be difficult when it interferes with social plans.

Agreeing with Debby, I suggest that before you lie down with the hot pad, take a brisk walk for 30-45 minutes. Helps get things moving (not to put too fine a point) and gets the endorphins up so your mood improves. THEN lie down with the hot pad.
