For those of you that suffer from IBS-D...can you tolerate eating bananas?

I do well with bananas. I usually have one every morning with breakfast or a morning snack. I am not severe IBS D, and am almost IBS A. Not sure if that matters much.

But mmmm... me love my bananas!

Hi,

Wish I could eat bananas. They give me terrible gas.
I have tried just a little, little bit in my oatmeal and that seems to be OK.

All about them:

http://www.menumagazine.co.uk/book/azbanana.htm

Okay folks with IBS-D. Did you know that if you buy the GREENEST bananas you can and put them in the refridgerator they WON'T ripen? Why should you care? UNRIPENED green bananas are not only LOW glycemically speaking (much less sugar! if you care) they also cause C...and if you have
IBS-D that is GREAT news. Don't go overboard now...and go the other way! Yes, they will eventually turn BLACK (the skin) in your fridge - but they last and last - never ripen inside and will for SURE SLOW everything down (use with caution) stop D. Combine it with some sourdough toast and a bit of oatmeal in the morning...maybe some peeled apple and WHAM - I betcha "do" better the next day. What this has done for me has allowed me more formed "results" and MUCH LESS urgency in the morning. Besides...bananas do contain soluable fiber - tons of potassium and yes, they even have 2g of protein in each one...my only question is...

...can you FREEZE them? Ha ha (no, I'd really like to know!)

Some of us can, some of us can't. It doesn't seem to be IBS-related just a food intolerance that strikes kind of randomly. I'm one of the ones that can't eat them.

HI Diane; bananas are one of my staple foods. I eat a banana mid morning for a snack every day. Make sure it is ripe though. I tried one that wasn't quite soft and it gave me pains in my chest and tummy. Similar pains to heart burn/gas. Try one and see how it affects you! Enjoy! sue
