I have ibs attacks from time to time and think there might be a connection to getting gerd or reflux symptoms when my ibs flares up. Right now I have a feeeling that there is a "lump" in my throat and food is getting stuck. If I eat for IBS the foods seem to be a trigger for gerd. I don't have heartburn but the feeling of the food backing up and not digesting. It's like a "ping pong" game of fix one problem and get another. Anyone else get this problem?

Hmmm, that's an interesting problem. I myself have GERD, but I haven't found that Eating for IBS makes my problems worse. That being said, there are some things on the EFI diet that you should watch out for if you have GERD.

For example, peppermint is a huge GERD trigger, so if you're going for the peppermint tea when you have an IBS attack, that could be causing some problems. Other big triggers are tomatoes, onions, peppers, a lot of spices, acidic foods, and fried foods and chocolate (but those should be off limits for IBS). So if you find that you're eating some of those foods that might be causing the problem.

Have you seen a doctor about the problem? Because although it could be GERD, there are other disorders that could cause you to feel that way I believe.

Hope you feel better soon!
