Can we have this? I didn't think so because I believe there is lactose in it, and some form of buttermilk. I was reading some posts on the recipe exchange that use it, so I was curious. Anyone use it and have problems?

I use the "I can't believe it's not butter" spray on toast, etc. It has not bothered me so far.

I have IBS D and the girl at the health food store suggested Earth Balance buttery spread. It is Vegan (non dairy) and made with oils (olive, canola, etc.). It has 11 grams of fat per T. but I am trying to gain weight. I really like this. It tastes just like butter, and the consistency is the same.

Hi Cara,
You don't want any dairy. You also don't want any hydrogenated fat because it's SOOOOOOO unhealthy! Whatever margarine spread you choose, make sure it's NON-HYDROGENATED.
All margarines are fat, total fat, so the percentage is WAAAAY up there, even the "lite" or "reduced fat," so we have to use it very sparingly.
I go down to the HFS and buy Soy Garden. It's non-hydrogenated, contains no dairy, and tastes exactly like real butter. It's amazing. However, there are other brands on the market, such as "Take Control" or "Take Control Lite" that you can get at the supermarket, such as Safeway, and it's non-hydrogenated. I don't know if "I Can't Believe" is non-hydrogenated; check the container. But if it contains real dairy, I'd pass on it.
