I had been feeling flawless for about 3 months tomorow at the end of the school year and a couple weeks into the summer and then, BOOM im getting sick every day...... i have a really bad stomach ache with a lot of diarreah.... it may not be my ibs acting up, but its been happening every day so far and i feel like crap, cant sit up, dont feel like eating.... its really hurting and i got 7 days before my vacation trip, and im worried im not gonna be able to go.... ive been eating yogurt in the morning since it started because i know that yogurt helps with diarreah, and ive been taking my fiber and eating good for me..... if there is anything i can do quick, i really need to know because i dont want to have to miss my vacation AGAIN....

If you are anything like me, the stress of worrying about feeling well on vacation is enough to kick mine back into gear. I'm on prescription med. that helps calm my nervous system and intestinal tract. If I weren't and I were you, I'd be taking Immodium. I used to live off of it before I went to the Gastro dr. You are lucky with D that you can eat yogurt. I can't tolerate dairy, including yogurt. I'd suggest rice, applesauce, toast, really really bland foods. I'm sure others on this site have some great advice. I'm a librarian in a high school and we've had a lot of end-of-year activities (graduation, retirement parties, etc.) Just the excitement of these events was enough to start mine up a bit.

Yogurt's good for D is it? I never heard that one.... I REALLY wouldn't do that, if I were you.

You said Immodium gives you these symptoms - surely not D? What dose did you take before?

What are you eating apart from the yogurt? I'd go for only soluble fibre foods.

Well, stop eating yogurt! It's almost certainly making you worse. The reason you were probably told it's good for you is actually probiotics, which you can get in dairy-free capsule form from health food stores.

Follow Heather's "what to eat when you can't eat anything" diet. That should help.

Are you on a SFS?

im taking no medications because the ones i was taking.... (pills that i slip under my tongue that tasted like the nastiest peppermint you ever tasted) never helped, and i got put on strong doses of those.... and never helped..... since then, my gastro doctor told me just to cut out everything on a list and it should help, i did cut them out and felt really good for for 3 months up until now..... i dont know what to do, i even cut foods out that are on heathers list along with the list the doctor gave me..... i dont know what to do.......

Did you have ALL the tests? Stool sample, blood test, colonoscopy...? Your doctor sounds useless. There are loads of meds to help with IBS and everyone reacts differently to them, so most people have to try lots of different meds to find out what works for them.

Are you taking a soluble fibre supplement? What was your problem with Immodium?

i had everything.... like i said, the diet did work wonders for 3 months..... my doc also says (dont know if its true) that she has IBS..... if she did, she wouldnt be so mean to me is what i think..... i have been to her 2 times and she wont give me any meds, she said thats a last resort...... im taking citrucel 2 times a day..... my immodium problem was it would stop me up for 2-3 days and on the last day it stopped working, i would be so bad that i couldnt sit or stand up and would be in the restroom for a long time and it wouldnt be worth all the pain for just three days of no pain..... i have never taking immodium ever since.....

I'd try a different SFS when you've got time. Acacia is a lot gentler.

What dose of Immodium did you take that time?

Well, all I can think of that doesn't require going to the doctor, etc is...

ONLY eat soluble fibre foods - including when you are away.

Drink Peppermint and Chamomile insanely and take tea bags on holiday with you and brew some at every possible opportunity.

Take a painkiller with codeine in it - it helps with the spasms.

Good luck!

The very first thing that you need to do is de-stress. Try very hard to stay calm. Get rid of the yogurt. No soda,no candy,no coffee. Drink alot of hot strong peppermint tea. Try eating plain white rice and fresh baked french bread. Follow the "what to eat when you can't eat anything" list from the books. Stick with the fiber supplement till you get back from your trip. I highly recommend getting Heathers fiber, peppermint tablets, and peppermint tea as soon as possible. These items work better for me than anything off the shelf.
Is it hot or humid where you live? Summer is always worse for me than any other time of year. Stay as cool as possible. This may sound odd, but it really does help. You also need to stay hydrated, drink plenty of fluids.
I hope this helps.

Think so...is that like the Vicodin you have? I take Co-codamol which is paracetamol and codeine. Helps me loads with the pain and cramps of an attack.

It seems like if the yogurt didn't bother you before it is strange that it would be the problem now. Unless, you switched brands or flavors that has something different in it.

Also, be sure nothing you take like vitamins, gum, mints, etc has sorbitol/mannitol in it. That is a big IBS trigger.

Take Immodium for the diarrhea. It really helps me.
