I have been drinking 1/2 gallon of liquids every day (herbal tea or water)for the last few weeks and have seemingly gained 5 pounds. Surely this is water weight and I live in Houston, TX so we are talking major heat and humidity. The weight gain isn't a huge deal but feeling like I have an innertube filled with water in my belly is not a good feeling. Help!

Trying staying away from salty foods - this will increase the water retention! It also sometimes takes your body time to get used to the extra water intake so wait a week or so and things should calm down. Exercise will also help.

Keep drinking water! It will help in the long run for IBS and your general health.

I have severe water retention from severe c. So I know it's horrible. Here's some things that help.
Taking a bath with 1 c. salt a week. Potassium, magnesium, bromide in the salt helps to detox the body.
Working out alot helps sheds water weight.
B6 and potassium are natural diuretics. Peppermint and anise are diuretics.
Pure cranberry is a powerful diuretic. I wish it was sold here.
350mg magnesium supplement helps. Don't take one higher than 350mg or you can get d and an upset tummy.
Lemon in hot tea helps.
Make sure your not having too much salt since too much can make you retain water.
Never take an over the counter diuretic. They can cause heart attack, dehydration, potassium deficiency, irregular heartbeat.
Hope this helps.

I have water retention and the thing that help me most is, ironically, water.I drink 1 gallon of water (1 cup per hour) a day plus insoluble fiber in small quantities. You need water to eliminate water. Thanks to these changes my retention and constipation days have been greatly reduced. It is a day to day progress but it will work.

Angel, if you can't get Knudsen juices in Canada, I'll bet someone would be willing to buy you some and send it to you. Here's my favorite source:

Cranberry juice is good especially if you have kidney problems and bladder infections just don't get too carried away it has vitamin C and that can end up making you get D. I personally buy pure concentrated cranberry juice and water it down and put in some of the frozen lime juice though I strain the pulp first. I also add some more water and it tastes great.

If you're broke like I am try Kool aid (not artifically sweetened) and put way less of the surgar in and it's not bad as a cheap drink. I also like to boil a chunk of peeled and grated ginger root in water and let it steep for ages and make it with some other juices.! It sucks to be poor!
