I can be home & very comfortable. 5 min on the road & I have to go NOW!!!! This is a mind game at this point!! If you have this problem & have been able to overcome it, what did you do. This goes beyond diet. I eat well but am so paranoid about having an accident that I sometimes think I talk myself into this. Appreciate your help!!

You're absolutely right -- it DOES go beyond diet. It's all about positive thinking. The subconscious controls all our bodily functions, including our gut. You need to be careful what you're telling your subconscious! I learned SOOOOO much from Michael. Check out my story: web page
GolferLady, I cannot recommend the hypnotherapy program to you stronger. I think you would SOOOOO benefit from it -- just like I (and so many others) did. Read my post -- and others in this same thread -- in the hypnotherapy board, then check out the link to your left. You can also ask a lot of questions about the program in the Hypnotherapy Board. Marilyn and ShawnEric are the geniuses in there, and they can answer ANYTHING you need to know.
Good luck, Bev

I have the same problem, you are not alone!!! I was scared to go anywhere because I was scared I would have to go to the bathroom and not make it...then the fear would make me have to go. I am actually doing an anxiety program right now to try and help myself...it seems to be working...
Good luck to you!

Hi - I'm new and feel so comforted knowing the there are many people with this problem and so nice! My symptoms happen at lunch. I have never been a great eater (Frosted Flakes was always my staple), but it doesn't matter what is front of me, within 5 minutes of finishing, I have a problem. Worse of all, it happens at work and the bathroom is quite a ways away. I don't have the pain that alot of people have, just alot of running down hallways hoping I make it on time. I thought it was because I was getting married and the anxiety that goes along with all the planning. The wedding is over and I'm still having the problem. Some days are normal some aren't. I'm just glad to know I'm not alone in this. Thank you!

Welcome, walkergirl! I'm a walker girl too!! My favorite form of exercise, too easy for even a lazy bones like me to avoid!
Now that you've found this site, you'll find lots of good info. But I have two immediate suggestions for your lunch problem. First, limit your lunch menu to one of Heather's "what to eat when you can't eat anything" list click here for list , like a plain bagel or plain white rice or a plain baked potato. Second, take 1 Imodium tablet as a preventive mid-morning.
Those two things will help you get stabilized while you're starting to implement some of the other suggestions here like taking a soluble fiber supplement, giving up coffee and alcohol, limiting your fried foods and red meat, etc.
Good luck and welcome again!

Keep it simple!

Hey LauraSue - thanks for the welcome and info. I've written down the list of "Trigger Foods", "Soluble Foods" and "Insoluble Foods". I have a doctor's appointment today to talk about this and will be taking in the list to show her. It's good that you do alot of walking! I walked about a mile last night, felt really good and that I was doing something proactive, especially since yesterday was my worse attack ever. Sometimes even the small pleasure things can mean the world to you! Keep up the walking...and you are definitely in the right city to do it in.

I could have written your post as I struggle with the same thing. I could have gone 5x before I left the house and know I don't have to go and lo and behold, get in my car, away from a bathroom, and suddely feel the urge! It drives me nuts!
I have really tried to figure out the mind/body connection. It's so strong. I've been thinking positive things. (Bev on the board has helped me with this). She suggested Michaels' hypnosis therapy. IT's a link on the board. I'm sure someone has pointed you in that direction. As for me, I find that repeating some scriptures that deal with anxiety help. I also started taking "relora", a herb that is supposed to help with stress related eating. I figure it couldn't hurt in stress induced bathroom visits!
I also have done some research on some amnio acids that are supposed to help with the mind/gut thing. I'll let you know if it works for me!
I know most of my problem lies in my head and not my intestines.
I wish you success! Sandy
