Hi! We went to the store last weekend to buy fine herbs for our garden and the lady told us that "Stevia" was a very sweet herb that could be used in home-made lemonades or things like that. We bought it and it's really got a great sweet little taste. Anyone knows it? Is it safe like other herbs? I haven't had any problem with it yet, but I haven't eaten tons of it of course!!

I recently saw this and asked about it too. I thought, "Great! Now I can go back to "diet" iced tea, lemonade, etc). Well, I did a search and found that it may not be safe. Try a search. There's a lot of info on it. By the way, I'm a special ed teacher, also. I teach kids with autism. I love it!
Take care, Karen

Oh man! Didn't know stevia wasn't safe- saw it in the health food store a while back and bought a big bottle. My BIG problem is that sugar makes me feel terrible (headache etc), I think it's an allergy, and honey makes my heart race like crazy. So I can use maple syrup, but does any one have other suggestions for sweeteners? Especially ones that won't break the bank?

Hi, did you try dehydrated cane sugar? I think it may be safe in small amounts. You can also use apple butter.
Byebye!
