its friday night. I had an awful day. So when dh asked if he should just get pizza for the kids i said fine. I was going to eat my rice and a tiny bit of baked chicken. but the pizza smelled so good . I took one of those lactaid pills and had two pieces of pizza.

such a freaking idiot.

its 2am. i've been up for an hour now sick as a dog. Finally had to help myself throw up.

I'm goin to eat some rice now that i'm feeling human again and not doubled over on the floor crying.

do ya think i'll LEARN???

so incredibly not worth it. tho at the time i was eating my hawiian pizza i'd have told you 'yes, this is worth it'

sometimes my stupidity just amazes me

Hey, don't say bad things about yourself like that. It's negative messages you're sending to your subconscious, and it's getting "recorded" up there.

You're HUMAN. We all make mistakes; none of us are exempt. Unfortunately, for us IBS-ers (unlike "non-IBS people") we pay the price for our boo-boos. It's not fair, but who said life is fair.

Look at it this way: you learned what your body can't tolerate. Tough lesson, but you learned it well. It won't happen again. If you were a non-IBSer, you'd just do it again since there's no price to pay for your indiscretion.

It's kind of like our condition keeps us on the straight and narrow, eating only healthy foods that our bodies like. That's a good thing.

I'm such a damn polyanna.

Hope you're doing better now.

Bev

Aw Barb, we all make these mistakes. Do you wanna know what I asked the GI after my endoscopy? Keep in mind I was still goofy from the drugs,I thought I had celiac, and I hadn't found Heather's diet yet. I said, "So can I eat pizza again now?" He looked at me like I was crazy and said "rice and veggies". I repeated my question: "No, I'm SERIOUS. Can I have pizza?" He just didn't answer. I went home and my friend ordered pizza for dinner. Yes, I pigged out after not eating all day. Did I make the connection when I was sick the next day?? NOOOOOOO!

The lesson is: don't worry about it! We all make mistakes. Heck, I STILL make them and was just complaining to Bev the other day that I drank coffee AGAIN. Ya know, you just don't get it. So really don't be too hard on yourself. Rest up, recover, and start again. You're doing so well with your diet overall and you CAN be proud of that

Hey, sweets, one of my worst attacks was from eating THREE pieces of pizza while watching the SuperBowl. Maybe I thought it wouldn't count because it was a national "holiday"??!!

I drank two martinis and thought it would be a great idea to smoke a couple cigarettes (only when I'm drunk does that ever seem like a good idea). I paid for it all morning... from about five am onward. I knew I was going to pay for it. Sometimes I just want to be a normal 20 something SO badly and have fun at the bars with my friends...

But I think I'm giving up alcohol all together. It's not so much the alcohol, but the impaired judgement that goes with it (like the cigarette).

Anyway... don't feel too guilty, just try avoiding it in the future. We are human.

We had pizza last night too. Next time just take off the cheese. I don't know about you but I hate to cook lately. Especially when it is hot. I have to confess I actually ate 3 pieces with cheese and wings. Don't get mad but I didn't have any problems. I love being pregnant and in the second trimester. I still can't believe I ate all that food. One piece has always been enough.

Yeah, try ordering pizza without cheese, and maybe with some veggies ontop if you can handle them ok (they're cooked so shouldn't be too bad). Also, they sell soy cheese pizzas at certain grocery stores, maybe you could stock up on them, and then when your family orders pizza pull out your own

Pizza is one of my worst "wants" although I have yet to give into temptation. I cheat when I'm doing well and eat things like brownies or cookies, but I never ever eat red meat or cheese. However, when my department at work threw a pizza party the week before we moved into our new offices I almost cried. I walked into the kitchen to make a soy cheese sandwich and there were like 6 boxes of pizza hut open and I could SMELL it! I'm lucky that I live by myself - I just don't bring those foods into the house! Work is hard sometimes though cuz everyone wants to know why you're eating those funny foods.

Silks, we all do it. I'm can do fine with the food, but I stay up too late, take on too many projects, don't rest, don't meditate, don't do my exercises . . . get the picture? This is not an easy lifestyle -- at least we all have eachother!

Try tiny little tea sandwiches, two pieces of chocolate cake, and two pieces of stromboli all because I was excited to have my sister spending the night with me. She does know of my problem. She is pregnate too, so she eats more and I guess I was trying to keep up with her. I paid the price.

Hey Chinagrl,

I lived in Austin, Texas for 12 wonderful years and I remember drinking Martini's and listening to live music all night long (pre IBS). Now that I live in Houston I am only able to get back there a few times a year to visit. When I visit, it's all about live music and WATER. I am still trying to get used to being "Martini free" when I visit, but it beats being sick.

they're all over here, Bev! every 17 years. and they're just starting to creep out, now. i can hear them through the open windows. it's kinda cool. from what i understand, it can get really nasty, though, with them inadvertently flying into your windshield and hair... i don't mind 'em, though. they're just big stupid/sluggish bugs trying to get a date before they die.

anyway, that's what's with the picture.

I LOVE them. I grew up with them. Here in the desert we have a new crop each year. I love their sound too. As kids we used to race them. Wanna know how? We'd cut off one of their wings with a sissors so they wouldn't fly then had a little track for them to race..............boy I (we must have been sickos back then but that's what kids did before computers and MTV and game boys). Oh, I did love "Jacks" too...couldnt' wait to get a new golf ball that would bounce HIGH for the games.

Hi Jen,

How are you doing today? Hope your fibro isn't giving you too much trouble.. Doesn't it know that Sunday is a day of rest????
Is that insect anything like a locust??... do love the sound of locusts. I don't know if we have your bug in Houston, but then, I'm not a bug expert. One thing though, if you put up a picture of a "big" ugly, disgusting roach on your post I wil scream so loud you will hear me all the way there....

much better day today.
sticking with bread and marmalade for my sweet tooth tho i think i may do the pineapple angel food cake for dessert tonight.
i miss salad the most i think.

i'm a C so the imodium won't help me - i just get horrible double over on the floor gas pains.
pizza without cheese isn't a bad idea.

i'm trying something new tonight hoping will work. I'm making beans in the crockpot (15 beans mix with a bit of onion, potato and garlic and a half cup of marinara sauce and water)
then i'll make some ground turkey and drain it really well. I'll serve the family the meat, beans and rice with cheese in tortillas.
I'll do mostly rice and beans in my tortilla with a tiny bit of the meat and see what happens.

but sheesh. no more pizza. Glad i'm not alone in my idioticness (is that a word?)

and i'm day two coffee free

Way to go on being coffee free! I was a committed coffee drinker from age 12, and was up to SIX cups a day during my senior year of college. When coffee started bothering my tummy I switched to about 4 cans of diet coke a day. My tummy still hurt so I exclusively ate popcorn and basically no other food. When that didn't work I went right back to drinking coffee. When I finally quit for real, I quit all caffeine cold turkey. Man was that hard! I literally lay in my bed in a dark room for about a week. I felt like I had a brain tumor. But now, I've made it through my first year of law school without being a regular coffee drinker. When I am particularly stable, I go for one small soy latte from starbucks, and I seem to be fine. But, I love the feeling of waking up and NOT needing a cup. I used to wake up feeling sluggish and puffy until about my 2nd cup. Now I wake up and can put my rings on right away (because I'm not addicted to the diuretic effect of the coffee), I can face bright lights and honking cabs, adn I don't drop dead at 3pm. I miss coffee terribly, the taste, that first buzz, the look of it in my hands, but I fake myself out with tea, and I give in to the occasional craving. I'm just really glad that I'm not hooked the way I used to be. I wish you lots of luck, and plenty of silence this week. Be patient with yourself -- it's a tough habit to kick! I give you credit for being able to face the glare of a computer screen.

Hi DanaNoel,

Thanks for the response! Yeah... I'm still trying to get used to the live music and water idea myself... sigh. I've only lived in Austin for a year, but we love it. We've moved around a bit and so far this is our favorite place we've lived! We'll only be here for four years or so... so can't get too adjusted.

You mean normal people don't eat like that?
Actually I need to toot my own horn just a little bit. While my eating habits in college were awful, I've been really good since starting law school. I owe most of it to IBS since anything unhealthful hurts. It also helps that they just opened a Whole Foods a few blocks away! I do need to start being better about incorporating vegetables and fruits in a safe way, but for now it's chicken, rice, cream of rice, soy milk, cereal, sushi, and potatoes ... oh and hummus too. As far as produce, I haven't really ventured beyond mangoes, bananas, and avocados. Thank the Lord hummus is safe because I honestly don't think I could live without it!
I'm going to be spening the summer in London near my boyfriend, so I'm sure cooking for two will force me to be a little more conscientious about veggies and fruits.
OK enough about my eating habits -- I need to finish studying for my last final! At 1pm tomorrow I will officially be done with my first year of law school!
