IBS being confused with gall bladder problems?

Has anybody had this happen? It seems the symptoms of IBS and gall bladder are very similar and sometimes can be misdiagnosed. I'm pretty sure its IBS with me because my dr diagnosed it when I was young, but also because some of my symptoms dont fit with gallbladder, while others do.

Anita - I had gall bladder problems early in 2000 and the symptoms for me were nothing like IBS, but then I don't have IBS as bad as most, either. Had it out in June 2000, was full of stones--so many the doc couldn't count them!

I dont really understand the whole gall baldder thing...a friend told me that when you have gall bladder problems, the body cannot metabolize fat. I think thats my problem, and maybe an IBS cause. You know, ppl who have lipase deficiency suffer IBS related problems too. I wonder if a cause of IBS is lipase deficiency? Lipase enables the body to break down fat...too much fat intake and WHAM! Diahhrea, etc.

My dr. sent me for a sonagram of my gall bladder when I first told him my symptoms. He said it could be that and so that was the first test. Everything was fine for me.

My chem teacher had gallbladder problems and was passing gall stones. SHe said when she still had her gallbladder,many docs said she just had IBS. Now that her gallbladders out,she says that she can handle most anything as long as a)its not overloaded with fat and b)its not on a empty stomach
