Okay, I'm having a bit of tummy trouble this morning...have bad attacks of D. I was fine when I woke up this morning, until I ate. I made myself an egg white omelet with mushrooms. Anybody have trouble with either one?

Hi! I am so sorry to hear you are not feeling well. Mornings are the worst for me! I have no trouble with either egg whites or mushrooms, but I believe I have read other posts where people can't tolerate mushrooms. So it really all depends on your own body, everyone is different. However, maybe it was something you ate yesterday?! Sometimes it takes a while for you to feel the effects of it! Take it easy today!

You know, on Mother's Day my in-laws brought over this peanut butter caramel topping cheesecake. I ate a little piece to be polite. Then on Monday night I had another little piece because I didn't react to it previously. Is it possible that days later the cheesecake came back to haunt me? Although, there have been other times that I had attacks from chicken marsala (restaurant style). I assumed it was the butter they used, but now I question the mushrooms.

BINGO.

I had heard about some people not being able to tolerate mushrooms, but I think that's rare. When I first read your post, I thought to myself, "Self, there's more going on here than mushrooms...."

I blame the cheesecake. You can have a delayed reaction to any food. And there's also something to food "overload." You can eat something that's a trigger one day and get away with it, but if you have it the next day, BAM! Did you read my post in the Living Room, "Attack in the Fabric Store"? Same thing happened to me that happened with you and the cheesecake. I heart Oriental cabbage salad, and I haven't had it in years. Heather modified my recipe for me, so I made it on Sunday, then had two helpings of it on Monday (but safely, with the soluble fiber first). No problems! So, yesterday I had it for a third time, then went to the fabric store, and right in the middle of being waited on at the cutting counter, BAM! Instant diarrhea! Ooooh, I had to RUN, and FAST!

I won't repeat my post, but suffice it to say I had a real rough afternoon yesterday, barely making it back home, having to take a public bathroom stop along the way.

Hubby said it well: I can tolerate something scary -- like the cabbage, for instance -- ONCE. But I'm pushing it a second time. In this case, I had it a third -- BIG mistake!

I bet you'd have done well to quit after the first serving, you'd probably not had any problems at all. But the second did you in.

Hope you're feeling better soon.

Bev

I'd keep an eye on those mushrooms too just to be sure. It probably was the cheesecake, but you never know. I have problems with mushrooms so I know it can happen.

i agree with Bev and Kree. i think it was probably the cheesecake. i have found, too, that i can cheat once but not later that day or again the next day or two.

it's possible that the cheesecake set off whatever alarms your tummy has that leads to IBS, and then when you put the mushrooms in your colon finally said "ENOUGH!"

i don't have trouble with mushrooms, but it sounds like some people do. i think that if you've had problems with them in the past (like with the marsala), then they could be a trigger for you. i would not like to give up mushrooms- i love them. but maybe you should steer clear if you have had another cheat item in the last few days? see how that goes.

feel better.

I think maybe I did have a delayed reaction to the cheesecake. Well, I'm feeling much better now...but that dang cheesecake is still in my fridge...don't know if I have the strength to throw it out. Anyways, I will try to stay away from trigger foods and then give the mushrooms another chance.

I think it was both the cheesecake and the mushrooms. I am actually allergic to mushrooms. It's a cross allergy from molds and mildews (they are fungi and so are mushrooms).

I've had many attacks that I set myself up for with a combination of little cheats over two or three days. And then something I can usually eat okay just puts me over the edge and into the toilet!!

So flush that cheesecake! As Bev would say, I'd rather eat worms!! Glad you're feeling better now.
