I tend to be IBS-C, but sometimes I alternate between C and D

I guess stress is the only common denominator here. I used to be IBS-C and now Im IBS-C&D, and the hair's still thin.

Stress creates too much of the male type hormones for us girls - adrenaline, testosterone so on. If you're sensitive to these hormones you'll get hair loss. The trigger is actually in the conversion of these hormones into dihydrotestosterone (or something like that) - it's exactly the same as the cause of male pattern balding. In women male pattern balding usually looks more like diffuse thinning over the top of the scalp.

I wish I had the answer. Once a stress-head - how do you turn that around. I don't think I ever met someone who suffered from excessive stress levels and then just eliminated stress from their nature/personality/life or whatever it is you have to do?!!?

Hiya,
I have always had really thick hair, but last year, about the time that my IBS came back with avengence, I was losing hair really badly. In the shower, when I was run my hands through it whilst washing, I would end up with handfuls of hair. I was really stressed at the time, about being sick, and I was just about to move (again!) from England to Canada, and then back again. After a while, it stopped but lately I have noticed it coming out more and more.
My boyfriend tells me I 'shed' too, as strands of my hair are everywhere. I am hoping it won't get worse, but I have definitely noticed it happening, especially last year.
Weird.

Hi,

My daughter-in-law had gastric bypass surgery to lose weight and the doctor told her that she would have hair loss after the surgery because she wouldn't be absorbing her vitamins properly. She did have hair loss but after a year it is getting back to normal. Maybe you are deficient in certain vitamins.
Also, I am going through menopause and I notice lots of strands of hair on my brush. I have very thick hair so it's not so bad....yet. Maybe it could be hormonal.
When I lost a lot of weight because I was afraid to eat I also noticed hair loss.
Anyway, I think maybe a blood test would help pinpoint the problem.

Good luck

My boyfriend tells me I "shed" too! He says he doesn't know who sheds more - me or our cats?

I have this same problem! My boyfriend is constantly picking the hair off the back of my shirts! I "shed" like crazy...you can always tell where I was sitting! Plus...it is worse in the shower! It kinda scares me too...I don't want to have bald spots before I get married!

Hair loss may be due to various reasons be it a poor diet, stress, medication or any other reason. I too had experienced hair loss due to stress and had a tough time hiding the thin hair. But then my hair stylist suggested me to buy some cheap Remy hair for the time being to hide the hair loss.

I know a lot of people swear by Omega 3 fish oil or just a high fish diet for hair thinning etc...But I don't do well with fish in any form so have to have a lot of soluble fibre with it. Worth a try-it's very good for you regardless.
