Thank you for the great description. Everyone has such positive things to say about the fennel tea that I will just have to try it. I have such a hard time not drinking my Diet Coke. I try to mix in water and drink Caffiene Free DC when I can, but I know that is so bad for me. It was nice to hear that you had a coffee addiction and that I'm not the only one who has a hard time drinking and eating all of the right things.

Two Gas-X every morning. EVERY morning. (RiteAid makes a generic that's cheaper.)

I HATE licorice, fennel, anise, all those flavors. I'd rather take a flavorless pill. (No offense, fennel fans, I just have wierd taste buds.)

I went through the same diet coke withdrawel! I used to drink so much of it that I always told people that i should have an intravenous drip full of it to constantly feed my bloodstream all day!
Now I'm three, going on four weeks off of it... and I feel great! It disgusts me to think of it, if that's believable... tea and water makes me feel sooo much better and gives me WAY more energy in a calm, good way, not spurts of "frantic energy" induced by caffeine.

Had to put my two cents in re: fennel.. I love it..cook with it, drink the tea..fennel is great..have you tried cutting up fennel in large pieces, simmering in broth with saffron? Yummy.. I also roast my fennel..

Cheers,

Olga

(you guys are going to hate me! now you're going to get the whole story of my caffiene addiction and attempt to get the monkey off my back!)

many people find the aspartame in Diet Coke to be a GI irritant, as well. i had no clue about that 'til a friend said something about aspartame. i totally didn't believe her, but after a while of being frustrated with the diet i decided to switch to Coke as an experiment. (mind you, the diet says "no sodas" so i had a lot of nerve being mad that the diet "wasn't working!")

i had already switched from coffee and Diet Coke to tea and the occasional Diet Coke and it helped... but i was still getting my "D."

so i thought, well why not try the aspartame theory out!? i switched to Coke. my diarrhea all but went away. can you believe it!? i mean, i still had attacks back then, but i stopped running to the bathroom 5 times a morning like i had been... i can't drink a lot of Coke, and i really do better if i have it with/after soluble fiber, but still. that's not too shabby.

WARNING: i immediately noticed the extra calories in Coke. they showed up as pounds on the scale. now i only have one or two a week as a treat.

*j

PS: i always thought people who took aspartame and things like that out of their diets were neurotic. the joke is on me, isn't it!? i had to give up sodas, aspartame, and wheat! add that to the fact that i gave up red meat, drink soy, primarily shop at a health food store, and take all sorts of weird supplements... i've turned into that woman i used to laugh at. who cares!? no more diarrhea! WAHOO!

I've never really like diet coke but decided to give it try to cut down on calories. Well after drinking 1 diet coke a day by the end of that week I was suffering big time. I had cramps that were so bad I felt like I was in that scene of "Alien" with it trying to kick out of my stomach (sorry for the gruesome picture). Stopped drinking it and was better within a few days. I have since given up soda except for the occassional "Sprite" or "Gingerale".

I am pretty sure that grinding it would not be good. But if you try it, let us know!

Chewing the fennel seed, though, yes, this works okay if you happen to like the flavor. I think a fairly strong tea would be a lot more effective, though.

If you really need some creative way to get the seeds ingested, add it to sausage of some kind (I can handle pork just fine, but if you need to use turkey sausage, that'll work too.)
