Vivacious Vanilla! LOL I love it! I've never heard of Wildwood brand - although I love the shore!

I've got to find this granola to try on my yogurt. Did you find it at the regular grocery store? Or did you buy it from this website?

World's best yogurt by a long shot

nancysyogurt.com

Check 'em out, they have soy products also. Note: if you live in a small town you might not find a retailer on their website search page. (I do and I tried and I didn't.) Try the next biggest town; I did and I found three retailers that way.

This is a VERY cool company. Ever read any Ken Kesey?

RE: GRANOLA, have you made homemade granola? I make it all the time; really easy. Oats, coconut, flaxseed, sunflower or safflower oil, honey, and whatever dried fruits and nuts I'm in the mood for. Of course it's a fraction of the cost of buying it at the store. Want recipe??

I found it at Thriftway. I have not seen it at Safeway. I think my Sister said tht Fred Meyer had it in the HF Section. I looked at my local PCC (HF Store) and they did not have it....but the store is real small and they don't have a lot of variety... I'm sure the bigger ones will have it. I know I've seen it at many stores before I heard about it..(it is made here locally in Seattle)

UUUUmmmmmm....... I did not care for Nancy's Soy Yogurt.... it smelled funny, it was clumpy (could not get it smooth), I tasted it before adding the granola.... it was shockingly bitter/tangy.... so, I added the granola...thinking it would help....but no such luck... just not my thing

I really DID like the Silk....so far my fav...the Wildwood was a very close 2nd. The Whole Soy did not have a vanilla at the HFS that I went to....but I think they have it at the Safeway by my work. But, I did buy a Whole Soy that is Strawberry Banana I think... I will try that one tomorrow I think.

I've been following this thread with interest because I haven't tried any of the soy yogurts -- YET. I really miss Yoplait and want to try to replace it.

Shell, you get the Whole Soy at Safeway? Boy, I sure haven't seen it there! Matter of fact, they don't have ANY soy yogurt (I asked).

We don't have an HFS up here; I have to drive 30 miles south of us -- but maybe it's worth it?

Okay, lets see if I have this straight:

Number One: Silk
Number Two: Wildwood
Number Three: Whole Soy

Now, which flavors of each are best? Think maybe I'll need to make an HFS run.....

Ok... the strange thing is that the Safeway by my house does not carry any soy yogurt, but the one by my work has a whole isle of stuff!! I'll go at lunch today and see which brands they carry. I'm sure I've seen Whole Soy there but I might be confused and it was really just Silk (which is my fav so far.... note: I'm only on day 3 of eating any at all).

For ME.....
Number One: Silk (Vanilla)
Number Two: Wildwood (Vivacious Vanilla)
Number Three *?: Whole Soy (Strawberry Bananna)*(I have not tasted it yet)
Number Negative Zero: Nancy's (Vanilla) DID NOT LIKE

I haven't tried the other types of soy yogurts but have the whole soy strawberry and it is yummy! I am extremely picky about the consistency of food and this tastes good to me. I also bought lemon but have yet to try it. Actually today I was dipping my waffle in it and it was extra good. I've bought it in both Whole Foods and Vons(is that like Safeway?)

I went to Safeway...... these are the ones that I bought

Silk: ($.99/each) blueberry, banana strawberry, peach, & key lime.... they had like 2 containers of vanilla left but they were WAY in the back and I could not reach, and my Sister was on my cell phone....so I gave up! LOL

Whole Soy: ($1.19) strawberry

SO, which one should I have tomorrow? hehehe I still have the one Whole Soy strawberry banana at home too that I have not tried.

WHOA, sorry about the yogurt!! I haven't had Nancy's soy, but I love the regular yogurt, and it IS a lot more tangy than your regular yogurt. It's the live acidophilus culture, which is soooooo good for you.

But back to granola.

Use a huge roasting pan or buy a foil roasting pan at the store. Spray the pan with canola non-stick spray and dump in a box of regular oats (not quick oats and not cooked). If you buy your oats bulk, get the roasting pan about half full. If you like apples or pears, cut one or two into thin bite-sized pieces and scatter them over the oats. (You're going to cook them, so they will be ok for IBS if you peel them.)

Now I really LOVE coconut, so I add a bag of shredded coconut. You can skip this if you want.

Drizzle the oats lightly all over with sunflower or safflower or canola oil. Then drizzle them all over with honey (preferably a local raw honey). Now sprinkle on (if you want) some cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and cloves. (Optional: sprinkle with flaxseed meal.) Stir a little and put this in the oven at 300 for about a half hour, then take it out and stir it with a big wooden spoon or spatula or ladle.

At this point you can tell if you need more honey or oil -- the oats need to be coated with it, but just barely. Turn the oats over well so the unbaked is on the top and put it back in the oven. Turn it down to 225 and leave it in there a half hour or an hour. It should smell Pretty Fine in your house by now.

Keep turning and baking it till it is golden brown, not dark brown and crunchy, just golden brown.

Take it out and stir some more and let it cool. When it's mostly cool, add nuts (I like almonds and hazelnuts) and dried fruit (I like cranberries and papaya and apricots and pineapple and dates and currants). You can add seeds (sunflower, punkin) and other cereal stuff (corn flakes, mueslix, whatever you like) if you want to.

Keep in an airtight container in a cool dark cupboard. This is REALLY good microwaved with milk on it.

I had to go look -- a box is 2 lbs. 10 oz.

But if you get it bulk, there's no need to weigh it before making it -- just get your big roaster pan about half full. (If it's really full it's difficult to stir it.)
