Janey, just between you and me, whenever I see shows on TV about women undergoing the knife just to remove some tiny little flaw in their otherwise perfect bodies, complaining about how unhappy they are that their lips are full enough, I'm just blown away. If they only knew what happiness truly is -- such as being symptom-free from IBS or CFS or fibromyalgia -- who cares if their tits aren't perky enough!?

Okay, sorry. I'll calm myself.

Bev, I agree with you 100%. Most people have no idea what it is like to be afraid to take a walk right after dinner or to go out to eat without having to worry about spending half the meal in the bathroom. The things people take for granted. There are great bras out there for sagging tits and control top everything for the out of shape tummy. Until I found Heather's book and this web site, there was nothing for people who suffer from IBS. I don't know about you but I felt completely alone and it isn't something you can talk to others about. You gave me a good laugh today. Thanks. Don't know why I waited so long to join the board.

Hi Janey,
Just reading your post. You're right!!! No one really knows how we feel when we have to do something as easy as it is for some to just take a walk after dinner. I've been suffering with IBS and just found this site last week. I have not received my IBS cookbook as yet so was reading all the posts to see what info. everyone had. I was given tickets to see Movin Out for my 40th wedding anniversary. I'm 59. I got the tickets for my anniversary in Feb. and when this got worse was worried I wouldn't make it as I was unable to get out of the house because of it. I watched what I ate and made it there Saturday in Boston. I waited to eat until AFTER the show was over as I was afraid it would act up. I took a bagel with me and munched on it in the dark during the show so when I went to eat I would be able to order something. I ordered salmon, white rice and green beans and have been OK since then. Was just so relieved to have made it out for the day. My daughter had paid so much for the tickets I didn't want to mess things up even though sometimes we don't have control over the situation. Just keep on reading the posts from everyone and believe me you'll see how much better you feel just knowing there is someone else who understands what you're going through.
Best Wishes!
Pat

Hi again, Girlfriend,

I'm off the subject here, but after reading your post I couldn't help comment. You did real well. Next time, though, why not keep a supply of Equalactin in your purse? That's what I do when I'm in such situations. You just chew a tablet -- like Tums -- and it settles your tummy down. I love my Equalactin.

Bevrs,
What does the Equalactin do? Just settle your stomach or can it replace Benefiber? Do you use that before you eat a meal? The doctor gave me Aciphex for the gerd, and hiatal hernia and told me to take the Benefiber for the IBS and Spastic Colon. The only other meds I take are Synthroid for my thyroid problem and Xanax for anxiety. I noticed the IBS came on full force when I was treated for a bladder infection and was give a sulphur drug. Does sulphur aggrivate the problem or do antibiotics? I notice all the advice you pass on to everyone and a lot of it has helped me too.
Thanks,
Pat

Pat, I am so happy that you were able to go to the show, enjoy it and didn't have problems. I remember one of the things Heather said about eating out was that she always took fiber before she went. Sounds like you had a great meal too. I find whenever I go to movies, games, etc. I have to have a seat on the end. I am always thinking ahead that if I have to go to the bathroom I have to be able to get out easy. If I end up sitting in the middle of the isle I almost go into a panic and have to really get control of myself. When you get Heather's book you will be amazed at how much better you will feel after following her advise. The recipes are wonderful and it does feel good to eat something that tastes great and is good for the tummy too. For the most part I feel good but I do fall back into my bad eating habits every now and then and I usually pay. There are some foods that I love and I don't always have the will power to resist them. We will just take this one step at a time and maybe one day we will get to the point we can take that walk right after dinner.

Thanks Janey,
I know someday we'll be able to take that walk after dinner. Have overcome even worse conditions and made it through. Hope you're feeling better yourself. I can't wait to get Heather's book. Let me know how you're doing. I care!!!!

If your doc told you to take Benefiber, I definitely wouldn't change until I checked with him first. However, be prepared for him to know nothing about acacia. My doc knew nothing about it, and looked it up but found zilch.

I don't know what it is about Equalactin -- it's just a soluble fiber supplement like all the others -- but it settles my tummy BETTER than the others such as Fibercon or Citrucel. It's my security blanket. When I'm under stress, expecting company, have to go out to dinner somewhere, have to be in a meeting, any kind of social event, or just feel rumblings or cramps coming on, the Equalactin calms it all down. I don't take it INSTEAD of anything -- certainly not my acacia -- just as I need it, that's all.
