Malabsorption - is this a problem for us all?

I am very confused (aren't we all, faced with this puzzling condition!).
I have just received the results of a 3 day stool examination which looked for parasites and checked for things like fat content etc.
The result came back that (in French, making it a bit more difficult to decipher) I have malabsorption (particularly of fat) and pancreatic insufficiency. I shall be seeing my doctor next week but I decided to look this up on the internet so that I would be a bit more informed and would be able to ask the right questions. (I have learned over the years not to trust EVERYTHING the doctor says).
Anyway, one of the reccomendations for treating the symptoms of malabsorption (for which the causes are many) are to follow a low fat, low residue diet and to eat 5-6 small meals and 8 glasses of water (between meals) throughout the day. Sound familiar?
I suppose that the soluble fibre helps to ABSORB the stuff that is mal-absorbed.
I would love a reply from Heather. I wonder whether she or anybody else has had this test and received similar results.
Looking forward to your replies!
Claire

Hi Claire,

Well, malabsorption doesn't seem to be a problem for me (stool check-up came back okay for me), but it would probably explain any weight problems you may have (btw, are you the same Claire I wrote a lengthy message to on another board some time ago? I remember because that was about the first time I ever dared to reply to someone rather than ask desperate questions and I haven't stopped since....). Anyway, I know nothing about pancreas deficiency apart from knowing of several people who take pancreas enzymes with great success.

All the best
