I am new to this board and new with ibs-c. I am under care of my GI but would like to learn how to eat right for ibs-c. What I am confused about is this, are ibs-d and ibs-c supposed to use differnt diets? My GI says I need to not have any dairy and that is all. But I want to be well long term once I am off of zelnorm. Please help me understand what ibs-c people should eat and not eat. Thanks!

Hi, Doe and welcome! Yes, I know it's confusing at first but believe it or not the same diet helps both C and D. Heather explains it better than I can in her book, but there may be a page on the main website or it may be in the FAQ's.
Even the best GI's are not always as knowledgeable as those of us who actually have it.
So, it's as easy as 123.
1. Start with the Supersafe Soluble Foods on Heather's page about what to eat when you can't eat anything else.
2. Cut out fat, red meat, coffee and alcohol.
3. Find a fiber supplement that works for you.
If start with those three things, you'll be well on your way!
And keep asking questions - that's what we're here for!!
Welcome to the best place on earth!

hi there I manage my ibs c without taking soluble fibre supplements through my diet only. I eat high fibre, most of it soluble, but some insoluble too. I can help you if you like. I find that if I eat the white stuff (bread, pasta, etc) I get more constipated.

i have C as well...
i use fiber con and it has been a great help to me. i can handle dairy though not in huge amounts. i have been following this diet for 2 weeks and i think it is the best thing ever....give it some time to work though...for us IBS-Cer's it takes more time to take effect than the Der's
good luck and welcome!
