HI everyone-my doc wants me to take Alesse, a medication that he feels will help with menopausal symptoms. I'm concerned it may kick up my IBS. Has anyone else had experience with this? Please let me know. Thanks! Linda

Just an FYI - almost all birth control pills have lactose as an additive. Stupid, huh? If you're really sensitive to lactose, you may have trouble. Generally, we avoid lactose but if it's in such a small amount like in a pill, you might be able to get away with it - I do.

I've been taking BC pills for about 13 years, and just last month switched over to the patch (it JUST became available in Canada) and am waiting to see if it makes a difference in my symptoms. I'm hoping it does, as there have been a couple discussions here about a possible link.

Berky, there have been other discussions about the hormones in BC pills and how they effect us. If you do a board search I bet you'll find some interesting info!
