i just started doing this diet yesterday. and i am a bit nervous about all the carbs. i guess i'm just too used to having people drill into my brain that carbs are the source of evil when it comes to wieght loss, but i am REALLY afraid of gaining weight.

i am a bit over weight (like 30 lbs) and would hate for that number to increase. i'd like to see it go down if possible.

the main things i am doing is cutting out fat, sugar, caffeine, 'fake' sugar, etc etc.

for example yesterday...i had a lender's bagel for breakfast, plain...with water and the fibercon pills....then i snacked on kix at 11....then homemade chicken noodle soup with the veggies pureed for lunch and applesauce for dessert...prezetls and peppermint tea for 3 pm snack...the that AMAZINGLY good Oven Fried chicken recipe i found on this site with rice and a small bowl of lettuce.

i mean...i am scared that it is way too many carbs! am i doing this right?

Juli, that looks fantastic to me. I'd say you're doing everything right. Yes, low carb diets are the big craze right now, but honestly they're not always healthy and there are much better ways to lose weight anyway. Low fat diets such as Weight Watchers have been around for ages, and since Heather's diet is low fat by design it's really like you're dieting anyway! It looks like all the foods you ate were definitely low fat, so it's my guess that you'll lose weight just as well on this diet as you would on any low carb plan. Just my opinion, but I think you're doing the right thing for your health all around!

Oh, and there have been other discussions about low carb diets. Do a board search and I know you'll find some interesting info!

JuLee, it sounds fine to me. I hate the whole "low carb" fad going on right now. Carbs are not the enemy at all. It's the JUNK carbohydrates that will make you gain weight more easily. America is getting fatter not by eating rice or pasta, it's what's ON the pasta, like cream sauce, or hight fat cakes, cookies, doughnuts, etc. that will make you gain weight. Calories are really all that matters. As long as you are eating the right amount of calories, you will not gain weight.
Trust me, all I eat are carbs, and I have NEVER had a weight problem. I am in good shape and wear a size 4-6. If carbs are so "bad" and make you so "fat", then how come I'm not fat?
Trust me, carbs as a whole are not the enemy. It's the butter and the rich sauces, and the high fat meat and eggs, etc. that will make you gain weight and are very bad for your heart.
I can't WAIT until this "Atkins/South Beach" stupid craze is over with! It's so stupid

Hey there...

I've been following this diet for a month now and I've lost 10 pounds!! I cut out caffeine, red meat, most fats and don't eat too much sugar and without even trying I started to shed the pounds!!

I'm sure once you start following the diet you'll see that if you control how much sugar, fat, etc you eat then the carbs aren't really anything to worry about.

You might even lose some weight too!!

Good luck girl!!

Hello and Welocme! Your menu sounded GRAT! If you are prone to D becareful with the bowl of lettuce. Eating insoluble after soluble helps, but it can still cause D if you are not stable. Most people prone to C can handle a little more insoluble than people with D.

I understand your concern about weight gain and carbs. I recently lost about 30 pounds and have now gained back about 10 of that. I don't believe it is all due to the diet, I haven't been working out nearly as much as I was. because this diet is so low in fat most peole actually lose wieght, not gain it! I know many girls on this baord are losing weight. Most of them have cut out sugar and a few bread. But you need soluble fiber (rice, pasta, etc) to keep your colon stable.

If your concerned about too many carbs try switching your bagel in the am to oatmeal, less carbs and most people tolerate oatmeal just fine. you menu really does sound good. Keep it up! Add in more exercise and lots of water to help with the weight gain issue! In fact several girls are also doing this diet in conjunction with the weight watchers program. Have you checked that out?

if i can save the money from joining WW and follow this on i rather

but to be honest...right now i am just trying to stop the tummy pains...i'll work on the loosing wieght part as soon as i stabalize a bit. as you all must know...it sucks to have constant stomach aches! and i'm more prone to C than D...(took me a sec to get that ) and i love my lettuce so cutting that down a bit will be difficult.

so far cutting back on sugar hasnt been too bad...but with my 'ladies' days' coming up next week...we'll see what happens...i already have my eye on those antidepressant brownies i've seen in the recipe section
