Hi everyone,
This week I was home working. I didn't get much exercise, and felt my IBS,(gas) was bad.
Does anyone know if IBS, or even the gas part gets bad when you don't exersise a lot, or unable to move around a lot?
Thanks, Christine

I find that if I'm on a long road trip in the car, sitting still for long periods of time, yes my IBS gets worse. It is better to be active - try a quick walk after eating a meal. I find it helps immensely. Besides, the more active we are, the better!

This is a good question, Christine.
I think the answer is yes. You have to exercise to get everything moving, even if it's just a nice little walk around the block. I think yoga is a good thing for gas. I took a class once and thought I was going to explode.
If you can't get out because of all the work at home, you might consider ordering one of the pilates programs. I ordered it -- and like it -- and so have quite a few people here. It's tough, but you can do it at home on one of your breaks, on the living room floor, then return to your work. Very convenient.
Yes, I think exercise is crucial.

If I don't do a lot of exercise each day my symtoms are so much worse. I have to force myself. I recently had a severe attack and I did less exercise for one day and I got such severe gas pains I could barely walk so I started exercising alot and they subsided.

I feel SO much better when I exercise! I can't explain how or why, but I'm betting it's part endorphins, part getting the blood moving and the body warm, and part doing sit ups that force air and poop(!) out the back door.
I've decided to do SELF Magazine's 2004 Challenge and I aim to do 30 mins of cardio 3x/week, 15 mins of abs 2/x and 20 minutes of weights 2x/week. I have an incredibly supportive fiance who gets on my butt if we don't work out (we always workout together). I think that he know that if I don't exercise, then two things will happen: 1. I feel bad, tummy-wise, and I will not attempt any sort of nookie :-P, and, 2.) When I don't work out I feel bad about my body, and that just sucks and puts me in a bad mood. Which in turn obviously affects our relationship.
Though I may be in physical pain, I must work out. I stair step for 30 minutes at least four times a week. That's the least amount of exercise I get per week. I have to or I'd go insane.
HTH!
