Ok this probably sounds kind of silly. But I went to the doctor yesterday and mentioned I had IBS. He suggested that I eat a lot of "p" fruits. When I asked him what he meant - he said fruits that start with a p. Supposedly pineapple is supposed to be really good for you?? Is he crazy or right?

Plums!!!

Don't forget plums!

I think that's what I was thinking of when I said prunes. Prunes come from plums, right?

And I guess pumpkin too, since pumpkin is technically a fruit.

Do prunes come from plums? Hmm... I didn't know that! What, are they dried plums?

Plantains!

And isn't there something called "prickley fruit"?????

That's so hilarious! If you're eating all those why not eat some apples, mangos, and bananas too??

Actually, pineapple and papaya both contain enzymes that aid digestion. Also, pineapple is the one fruit that almost no one is allergic to.

However, I do think your doctor and every doctor in the universe should be trained to say "soluble fiber" every time they hear "IBS". You know, like word association??!!

That IS silly. Does he have cornflakes for brains? I'd ask him to document his information. That makes about as much sense as saying read only books whose title starts with the letter "m" or "o" or whatever.

There are good doctors and bad doctors and dense doctors. If he's good or bad he still appears dense.

But yes, pineapple is good unless you can't handle the acid it it...papaya as well. Both are known to be beneficial to digestion......but those are the only 2 "p" fruits I know of. Those are best consumed at the end of a meal. If you can't handle either, there are some inexpensive pineapple or papaya or papain chewable tabs out there that do the same thing. Watch out though, some use HFCS to sweeten them.........then you have another problem if you can't handle fructose.

"pineapple is good unless you can't handle the acid it it..."

Yeah I usually stick to canned pineapple which is less acid.
