If we have that in common, then that may explain why you're hungry and eating all the time!? Do you think? Did you notice that when you were off the gluten-- a more reasonable apetite? I know they say weight loss is a sign of celiac, but my body is not the type to lose weight easily, and I had already lost 40lbs from the IBS. I think that if it is, indeed, gluten and malasorption from it, maybe my body just froze and wouldn't let me lose any more weight. It even fought to put some pounds back ON! Just a theory.

Let's do this systematically. Here are the symptoms of celiac from celiac.com:
Diarrhea CHECK
Constipation CHECK
Steatorrhea (fatty stools that float rather than sink) CHECK (+ EW!)
Abdominal pain CHECK
Excessive gas CHECK ( my apolgies. it was the dog!)
Any problem associated with vitamin deficiencies NOPE
Iron deficiency (anemia) NOPE
Chronic fatigue OH, YESSIR! CHECK
Weakness MMMM HMMM. CHECK
Weight loss YES AND NO
Bone pain NAH
Easily fractured bones GOODNESS NO, I HOPE
Abnormal or impaired skin sensation (paresthesia), Including burning, prickling, itching or tingling I'LL TAKE A PASS, THANKS
Edema NOPE, NO WEIRD SWELLING. I THINK I'D PASS OUT AND CONSIDERING HOW MUCH I PEE, IT'S UNLIKEY I'M GOING TO RETAIN FLUIDS!
Headaches* SADLY, YES
Peripheral Neuropathy* (tingling in fingers and toes) THAT HAPPENED BEFORE CHRISTMAS FOR A WHILE, BUT NOT RECENTLY
Individuals have reported such varied symptoms as:
White flecks on the fingernails NO
Fuzzy-mindedness after gluten ingestion YES
Burning sensations in the throat YES, BUT I FIGURED IT WAS THE WHISKEY.

For the love of Pete, I don't want to do a gluten overload just for the biopsy if it's going to come out negative!!!!!!

Me too Bev! Uh-oh! Except that I tried cutting out gluten before and it did naff all (that was before I found Heather tho, so maybe all the veges and dairy I was eating cancelled that out! ).

Ummm, yeah, I can answer yes to most of those questions....I'm already a vegetarian, if I cut out gluten, I'd eat next to nothing, and I already have issues weighing enough....

I had the antibody tests for celiac done, two were in normal range, one was insanely high, so they doc just said it was a false positive. Maybe I should get tested again?

Bevrs/Kree/Jen-
the reason I was asking about cutting out starches was if I were to do Weight Watchers (which I need to do again, badly!), starches are sooooooo many points and all the free foods, like veggies and fruits, etc. are not good for our IBS tummies. I wouldn't have one clue how to adapt WW for someone with IBS and not go stark raving mad hungry, so Jen (and everyone else doing it), I give you lots of credit!

p.s. Nope, not celiac

I can't eat milk products, red meat or junk food because of IBS and I can't have sugar because of blood sugar problems.

Eating these foods are probably a major cause of weight gain. Not eating these things probably causes weight loss. It certainly has in my case! I weigh about 82 pounds right now. I'm trying to gain three pounds. My ideal weight (based on my height) is about 85 pounds.

So follow the IBS diet, plus cut out sweets, and soon you will look just like Twiggy!
