Good morning all, I haven't posted in a while but I'm feeling pretty awful right now. Last night I had a little bit of pasta with tomato sauce and have been up since 3:00a.m.
Generally, I thought I was able to tolerate tomato sauce but now I'm now so sure. The pain in the my left side is intense. I was fine during the day yesterday -- had a plain roll for breakfast, lite lunch of chicken pot stickers and rice (steamed) and then the pasta.
I don't have any meds as I go to the doc on Friday for a follow up visit and worst of all I came into work when I should have stayed home.
Is it the tomato sauce? Thanks.
Barbara

Did you check what was in the tomatoe sauce?? Was it homemade? It is always VERY important to check the ingredients in anything you buy. Otherwise things like this happen and we end up with an unhappy tummy Lots of tomatoe sauces contain nasty additives and some vegetable based meat sauces even contain meat products!!

I have this same problem with tomato sauce, as do many others. Every once in a while I can tolerate a little bit, but have to be very careful when I do. I generally try to avoid it all together.

I eat the Prego sauces in a jar and don't seem to have a problem, just watch out for some of the cheese flavored ones! Everyone is different though, so you may be sensative. Hope you feel better soon.

It was probably the tomatoe sauce. I get violently ill from Tomatoes.

Being Italian I always make my own sauce and each year it seem I elliminate more and more ingredients, of course no onions, but I was usuing meat which may be the culprit too. It seems I can eat it one night but not a full plate and then the 2nd night it gets me.

Can't do tomato sauce anymore or salsa's, and it's hard because my husband is hispanic and everything has tomatoes in it. So I gave it up and I find alternative's like spices that can accent spaghetti noodles or even some veggies can give it a flare.

I'd be interested to know what everyone puts on their pasta to keep it tasing good and not sticking together . Tomato sauce is out. I sometimes put a big of Krafts balsamic vinagrette salad dressing but not soo much as it has oil and some McCormicks' pesto seasoning (spice jar, not the packaged seasonings which are always loaded with MSG and other bad stuff)

Sorry, Barbara -- I JUST saw your post! (I've been gone this morning.)
Everyone's probably right about the tomato sauce, but I wouldn't give it up if I were you. The same thing happened with me when I first got into the program and tried to make my own pizza, using bottled sauce (I can't remember what kind it was), and ended up with the same symptoms you're describing. I thought I had a sensitivity to tomato sauce, so I gave it up.
Turns out it had to have been something else, because I've since tried the bottled pizza sauce several times with no problem.
I have a suggestion. Why not make your own? I posted an incredible crock pot spaghetti sauce recipe sometime ago. I just love this stuff -- I make it all the time -- and it doesn't bother my tummy at all; besides, I KNOW what's in it, so I know it's safe.
Get better soon.
Bev

Ummm... wow. I guess everyone eats something that sounds gross to others! Mine is peanut butter, lettuce, and soy bacon sandwiches. Or, PBLs!

Yes, I have found I can't eat pasta sauce, or tomato soup anymore. Bummer,as I really enjoyed both. I have acid reflex also, so another reason not to eat them. I can eat the Dinner in a Bag recipe, that I found on this website, which have stewed tomatoes in them. This is a great recipe.

um, pot stickers? what was in them? are you SURE it wasn't them? unless you made them yourself, they probably had MSG in them (even if the restaurant says they don't use it.) Been there, done that.
but too much tomato sauce bothers me sometimes too. So whadda i know?

I notice too that some brands of tomato soup my bothers me. I find that the brand could make a different as far as what is in it the can. When I have tomato sauce, I usually get no salt plain and I put some sugar in it to cut the acidity in the sauce plus I cut back as to how much to use. I also add sugar to fresh cooked tomatos.
