My doctor prescribed me dicetel almost 2 months ago. I started on the 50mg for one month and then went up to 100mg. I've been taking the 100mg now for about 2 1/2 weeks and I don't seem to see any significant improvement. My doctor told me that sometimes it takes at least a month to see any results. Does anyone know anything about this drug? Is there anyone who is taking it/has taken it that could offer me some insight?

The first time I took Dicetel it helped right away. I've been taking it since 2001 or 2002. It doesn't help alot though. It sure costs alot!!!

I have been taking dicetel since Sept 2003 and started out with the 50mg tablet 3x aday. I now take 100mg 3x aday. I don't get the stomach pains or the D anymore. There have been times when I have been at someones place for dinner and they have served everything that we are not supposed to eat and have taken 100mg's of dicetel and have had no problems with the meal. I am on blue cross for prescriptions and for 300 tablet I only pay $25.00 instead of $113.48. Do you take it before or during your meal or snack? I take it just before I eat. Good luck with it. Gail

thanks for the reply...i'm taking 100mg 3 times/day and I was taking it with food before. Sounds like it might help if I try taking it before I eat so it's started disolving before the food has hit my stomach. Thanks for the advice. Also, did you notice it started working right away or did it take a little while for it to begin working?
Thanks again...

Hi kimm, when I first started taking it I took during the meal and it didn't help, so after doing that for several days I decided to try it before the meal and it started to work right away that way. A question for you... how much does it cost where you are. I am just curious if it is the same price everywhere. Gail

I also find that taking Dicetel before eating is really helpful, especially when you're eating things that might not be that easy to tolerate. I don't know about where you are, but I got it as a prescription (not sure if it's available over the counter) and it was covered under my drug plan so it wasn't too expensive. If you're getting it OTC, you should see about getting a prescription if you have coverage.

Dicetal did absolutely nothing for me. I even tried 2 rounds of it. I now take Modulon, which seems to be somewhat helpful. Modulon is available in Canada. It may be next for you on your Doctor's list.

It cost $88 for one month of the 100mg pills...my boyfriend has a medical plan though so it's 100% covered. It hasn't really worked for me yet so I may try something else.
