Hello, I don't post often, but i feel I need to ask a question. Lately, for the past week or so, when I lay down and feel around my stomach and intestine region, I feel stool all the way over on the left side and high up. It's been like this for over a week. I don't think this is normal and I'm getting worried. Even though I "go" to the bathroom every day, there is still alot in there. My question is "what should I do?"

I'm trying my darndest to get as much insoluble fiber that I can. Last night I had some roasted red potatoes with the skin on, a piece of rye toast with tuna, and 4 little roasted asparagus pieces. My stomach bothered me until I went to sleep. I'm afraid that I might have a blockage or something. Has anyone had this happen before and what have you done? Any thoughts at all? Any advice is greatly appreciated. I also take arcacia 3x a day. 1 T. at a time spread out in the morning, afternoon and dinner times.

Thank you so much!

I think if you are really worried you can visit your doctor and he would be able to feel your stomach and see if what's there is normal. Are you sure you aren't just feeling gas pressure or maybe parts of your intestine? I never know what I can feel in my own stomach. And I don't think it's really bad to have food/stool in your intestine because that keeps it from spasming when you have an attack. That's why you want to keep food in your stomach with small meals, to keep stubstance in there all the time without overloading it. Gosh I hope this helps and I do hope you feel better and if I were you, at least a phone call to the doctor could maybe put you at ease.

Thank you Debby, I do have a call in to my GI specialist. Thanks for replying. Much appreciated. I really do think it's "back up." I don't have any spasming at all. (now watch I'll get them because I just wrote that!) I just have never felt that so high up before and for such a long period of time. It's just not seeming right to me. I'll see what the GI says.

Thank you again,

zingirl,
I'm so sorry to hear that you are worrying this evening. Debby's right that you should see your Doctor, and I bet he puts everything in your mind right at ease. It's always better to make sure, than to fret over it.
You know that we worry like crazy and then find out that it was for nothing!
About a month ago, I had a big change in my ibs, went from D to C, plus I was having a lot of pain, and it just scared the livin' daylights out of me. I thought that I for sure had a blockage or cancer. I went to the Dr. and she felt my stomach and checked me out real good and said I had an infection.
Well, she still wants to do a colonoscopy to make sure everything's okay, but in the meantime, the ladies on this board really helped me out and calmed my fears. They really lifted me out of the dumps, (no pun intended).
I hope I've been of some help to you. I'll tell you one thing, you're sure not alone when it comes to worrying about changes in your intestinal tract. I know I sure fret over every little thing.
You're gonna be just fine though.
You said you're pooping every day, so that's certainly a good sign. I'm not qualified at all to give advice, but I just wanted to give some support and a shoulder. I've been there, and I know how you feel.
Bevrs always says that God doesn't give us more than we can handle, so no matter what, you are in His hands and that's a great place to be. You'll be okay!

Zingirl, you've gotten some great advice here. I agree that if things don't feel right to you it would probably be best to see a doc about it. IBS does change all the time, but if it makes you this uneasy it's better to be safe than sorry. Let us know how it turns out!

Thank you Terri. Thanks for your gentle words and caring way! Yes, I am fretting about everything. I'm not used to my body not working right. I've always been a "c" person, but not like this. It's just a little scary. I feel so abnormal. I look around me and wish I were everyone else. Wished I had "their digestive systems." It makes me all the more sad.

I sure appreciate your response. Everything will be fine. Just fine.

Take care,
zingirl

oh, i REALLY do understand your fear and how you feel abnormal. Believe me, we've ALL been there and it really is gonna be okay. I so identify with your fear. It doesn't take much to rock my boat because I have something wrong all the time; somewhere. Just when I think I'm used to me the way I am, something else goes haywire. I can't tell you how many times I've been in the pit of fear, and it's almost always nothing! The fear was worse than what was wrong! I'm sure there will be more responses to your post, and you'll just be surrounded with support and help!
Hugs to you,
Terri

Hi. I definitely have been in your situation, and I know that it feels like only you know what your body is going through and that it's very serious, but know that in the large scheme of things it's not so bad. What I was told when I had my fears of blockage was that I would definitely KNOW if I did. It's incredible, sharp pain and causes vomiting (because it's gonna come out through one end or the other!).

Any way, even though I've been told it is impossible to know how much stool is in your body by feeling the abdomen, I do believe you know your body better than anybody else does, and I truly believe I know when I'm "backed up," 'cause I can recognize it in my body. Please do see the doctor to make sure everything is alright, and in the mean time, I will give you my most simple, safe, personal solution to c troubles: drink lots of water! 1. You need it. 2. Sometimes, if you drink your recommended intake of water throughout the day AND a few glasses of water before you go to bed, you'll find that your body's reaction is to poop the next morning. Sometimes it does the trick, sometimes it doesn't, but either way, the water is a good idea (water is always good, no?). Take care, and let us know how everything is going, okay?

Hi there, Girlfriend!

It's me, Bev. I'm not a "C" so I don't know if I can help much. But something you said bothers me: (Quote) "I look around me and wish I were everyone else." (Unquote)

I hope you don't mean that. Believe me, if you could trade places with anyone, you wouldn't. When we hear other's tales of woe, it makes ours seem so much more bearable. I've mentioned my Canadian friend several times on these boards, but I want to tell you about him. He had throat cancer and went through chemo. Although the cancer is in remission, the chemo did a number on his throat, such that he can never eat any solid food EVER again. He gets all his nutrition through IVs. My heart just goes out to this man -- just talking about it brings tears to my eyes -- yet when I see him, he acts so "normal" as though nothing was wrong with him. I admire him SOOO much; he is such an inspiration to me -- I just don't feel like I have IBS at all when I'm around him. I wouldn't trade places with ANYONE, Girlfriend, and Cristy, I honestly believe you would not either.

See the doctor; if the doc doesn't help, see a different doc. You WILL get better -- just remember, you have some CDs coming from Michael!

Your friend,
Bev
