Probiotic Questions...

With regards to probiotics:

What kind do you take?
When do you take them?
When taken, when are they most effective?
Are there any side effects [i.e. bloating, cramping, gas, etc...]?

I used to take one at night before bedtime, two hours after a meal; and I experienced the most painful cramping I have ever had. I literally could not sleep because of the pain. I now take one in the morning when I wake up [still pain] and one thirty minutes before I have dinner [no pain, just discomfort]. I have read of how beneficial probiotics can be; and I am loath to relinquish using them.

Thanks, in advance...

You CAN take them with food if it gives you an upset stomach. I take Primal Defense. I can't take it as often as I'd like because it interacts with some of the meds I'm on for my sinuses...but when I get off all this junk I plan to take it 3 times a day...upon waking, before lunch, and before bed. I will take 6 caplets to 12 caplets per dose. (I have been on a ZILLION antibiotics and I will need all the probiotics I can get!)

Let me know if you try Primal Defense...or if you take it with food...how you make out. HTH!

Okey-dokey!
That is two for Jarro-Dophilus and one for Primal Defense.

When I take it [Ultra Duo Dophilus] by itself in the morning, it actually causes my left side to hurt. I have to use the restroom shortly thereafter, as well. I am not sure if it is the usual morning problem; or if it is the included FOS. This just started happening recently; so I am really not sure...

Seahawk, do a search in here to get everyone's opinions on different probiotics. It's been discussed a LOT. Do you know how to do a search yet? It's very helpful, because you can see what people who are no longer on board had to say about things as well as us "regulars."

You're getting great feedback here, by the way ....

Thanks!

Done and done.
I am very familiar with the board search feature...

I wanted to start a new thread to obtain more current information. I already got your choice [Jarro-Dophilus, right...] from our previous thread.

Thanks again!

Hi Seahawk

I take one jarro in the morning first thing and another one right before bed. No side effects except for very smelly poops the first few days.

I think they are helping. I was on a lot of antiobiotics in Dec and believe that probiotics will help replenish the "good" bacteria in my gut

Thank you much.
That is three votes for Jarro-Dophilus.

I noticed that everyone takes more than one [recommended dosage].
Is there a reason?

I take one capsule a day 30 minutes after I eat. If I plan on eating out for dinner I will take two capsules one after breakfast and another after lunch. I find it to be very helpful.

Thank you much.

What brand do you take?
Does it state that it has to be taken with food?
Do you take it with food in order to improve digestion?
