Hello,
I went back to the doctor today asking if he could give me something to help the horrible cramping I get with the D I've been experiencing. He was reluctant to give me anything the first time I went to see him ( a few weeks ago) because I'm waiting to see a GI specialist (not until the end of March). I had to go back because the cramps have become unbearable and he prescribed Dicetol (generic name Pinaverium). Has anyone had any experience with this or tried it? I'm always nervous before trying anything new but I'm getting desperate to just stop this cramping.
Thanks,
Kelly
I just found a link for this drug so I thought I'd include it: http://www.solvaypharmaceuticals.com/html/products/Gastroenterology/dicetel.html

Hi Kelly, I have been on dicetel for several months. I take it just before I eat and I have found a big improvement with it. I have had no side effects from it either. On the odd occasion when I have eaten something that is bad for me, I have noticed that it does not effect me the way it used to do with the bloating and cramping I hope that it helps you like it has me. Good luck Gail

Hi Kelly; dicetel helped me when I took it. I used it for about 5 yrs. In the last 6 yrs I only take it when I desperately need it; alot of cramping. The only side effect that I can remember was a what I thought was a little more D. but I believe now it was just the IBS . Give it time to work and you should see an improvement. HOpe you feel better. Sue

I was just recently prescribed Dicetel by my doctor as well - after 10 years of her just telling me "take metamucil". For me, Dicetel takes away all the cramping. I can almost feel my colon relaxing after I've taken one. I was given two strengths to test out, 50 and 100 mg, and I find I'm fine with the 50mg. I was taking it every meal, but have recently just started taking it when my tummy feels more rumbly - or when I go out to eat. Before starting Dicetel, I started taking the acacia fiber and am now up to the full amount(3 tbsp a day) - but it took me about 2 months to get here. Am also following Heather's diet diligently, and can say that I'm now quite stable. Definitely no mad rushes to the bathroom, no D, and no cramping! I don't think Dicetel is available in the US.
