"Shake-n-Bake"?

Is this stuff IBS-safe? I love it, and I use it on my chicken. I buy thighs (I know, I know, dark meat, no-no!), remove all the skin and all the fat, coat them with Shake-n-Bake, and bake them uncovered for an hour. YUMMMMM! I made these on Sunday.

Monday I wasn't feeling well that night woke up with cramps; had cramps and the infamous "D" all day yesterday -- not bad enough to turn to my meds -- but it's still lingering this morning, accompanied by light nausea and a severe headache.

I couldn't pinpoint what caused it except for the chicken. I had 3 pieces yesterday and 3 pieces the day before. (As I said, I LOVE this stuff!)

Anywho.... here's the list of ingredients: "Enriched wheat flour, ribolfavin, maltodextrin, partially hydrogenated soybean and cottonseed oil, bleached wheat flour, salt, paprika, malted barley flour, spices, mustard flour, beet powder, dried garlic, dextrose, yeast, natural flavor, caramel color, sugar, dried onions."

So whaddya think, guys? Is it the Shake-n-Bake that's to blame? Or have I developed a bad reaction to dark meat, which I used to tolerate well?

Maybe it's those worms.... ?

Hi Bev,

Sorry you were not feeling well.

I don't really use shake-n-bake, but sometimes I find that I can eat something one day and be ok but two days in a row usually has me running. Next time, try it one day only and see what happens. Good luck. Feel better soon.

I'm not that bad, just a little crampy, tender tummy -- I am SOOO not bad enough to complain. I just wondered what caused it, and I'm blaming the dark meat chicken since there's nothing in the Shake-n-Bake that I can think of that would cause this.

Again, thanks for your post, Barbara!

Bev

Looks safe except maybe the onion, it was one of the last ingredients so there probably wasn't much of it anyway.

I also find that the some "safe" foods for me if eaten several days in a row will cause problems. Strawberries are the big one for me!

Feel better soon!

Bev,
The two days in a row caught my eye, too. I definitely have problems with otherwise safe foods if I eat them two days in a row or three times in one week. Other than the super safe solubles of course.

Also, did you get enough solubles with each of those meals? I assume you did, since you have such a good grasp of the diet, but you didn't specifically mention it.

Glad to hear you're not feel TOO bad. I also had a little upset yesterday, just gas and bloating, no D, so maybe it was those pesky sunspots again!! You know, the ones we blame when everything else seems okay??!!

Thanks guys. I appreciate your thoughts.

I never thought about eating the same thing for several days. You think that could be it?

Caramel color, eh? Dried onions? Hmm.....

The worst part is the fact that, if I could, I'd eat more of it today! I love it! That's how bad I am.

No, not really. I'm just kidding. Besides, I ate it all.

Hi Bevrs, I us Shake N Bake a fair bit. I only us it with the breast and don't have a problem with it. I have started using the potatoe flake recipe on the board and we seem to like that better. I add other spice to it and my family loves it. hope you feel better soon. Gail

Hi Gail!

Is this the recipe you're talking about: SharonMello's Recipe

You like it better than "Shake-n-Bake"? Ooooh, I'm anxious to try it. What other spice did you add?

Thanks for the post, Gail! This is great.

Bev

Hi Bev, yes that is the recipe. As a matter of fact I am making it tonight. I use the recipe as it is and add in basil and or oragano. Sometimes I add in a bit of chilie powder, or thyme or rosemary. I just look in my spice cupboard and choose extra spice and herbs and add them. The potatoe flakes make an awesome crispy coating and the taste is wonderful. I also make the anglefood cake with the piefilling added to it for dessert. I have also used several other pie fillings. One that we like alot is cherry and I put in about 1/2 cup of cocoa or carob powder to it and make it like a blackforest cake. Happy eating. Gail
