My DR said I could try Zelnorm. Could you let me know if this has helped anyone or if it has any negative side effects?

There have been quite a few posts about Zelnorm, so if you do a search you should be able to find the info you need. It seems like there have been mixed results. It really helps some people, and others don't find it effective at all.

I started taking Zelnorm in Oct. and it has been a great help for me...as far as making me more regular.I really need that kind of help.It didn't help much w/the bloating and stomach pain, but I have just started taking Klonopin and that seems to make a huge difference.Using both these meds. is really making me feel nearly normal. It's strange how it has taken so long to come to what seems like a simple solution.

I know just what you mean about certain med combos making you feel nearly normal! I just started Xanax, which is similar to Klonopin and I swear I feel like a normal person! I never knew I didn't because I had nothing to compare it to! (BTW, I tried Klonopin too but it was too strong for me, so like with fiber supplements, different ones work better for different people.)

But, yeah, here's to feeling NORMAL!!!

What is "Zelnorm" and "Klonopin", also "Xanax", prescription drugs? I have not heard about this stuff yet. Gisela

Chris,
I'm taking Xanax not Klonopin although they are very similar. How has it helped? I don't know if it specifically helps my IBS, but it definitely lowers the anxiety level. An example is without it, it takes me forever to convince myself to run an errand because I have a little bit of agoraphobia (fear of open places). With the Xanax, I just grab my purse and go! No anxiety, no debating with myself, no rationalizing reasons not to go, etc. I can just leave the house like a normal person -- without driving myself crazy! (Or crazier, some would say!!)

I would certainly think that overall, a lower anxiety level has got to be helping my IBS, too, although the specific effect is harder to pinpoint.

Does that help? Was that your question?

Klonopin and Xanax are prescription anti-anxiety drugs. Zelnorm is a prescription drug that helps IBS-C.
