For salty things, I've found Rice crackers (also known as Rice thins) are pretty good. There are a few different kinds and flavours. They don't have the satisfying greasy full flavour you get from chips, but they are also way healthier.

I guess they are similar to animal crackers (not sure really), the name is Arrowroot. I assumed they were ok, but it's been a while since I had them/checked ingredients...have you heard of them?

I've never heard of baby crackers, but animal crackers, which are every baby's fave, have been around for a million years. They might be arrowroot, I don't know -- but you've got me to thinking..... as I recall, animal crackers are pretty darn good!

Remember Barbra Streisand's remake of the old (very old) song: "Animal crackers in my soup, monkeys and rabbits loop-de-loop, gosh oh gee but I have fun, swallowing animals one-by-one." Am I showing my age, or what? But you know, I think I'm gonna have to check them out next grocery shopping trip.

Who'd have thought we'd start eating baby food and end up doing the same!

apple cinnamon rice cakes....

I love those too! Well, actually I like Quakes, not regular rice cakes... close enough. They're one of my safest snacks. Plus I recently got hooked on apple cinnamon soy crisps. They're made by Genisoy, and the seasonings sprinkled on them make them taste just like cinnamon toast crunch cereal! And since that has milk and I can no longer have it I was so pleased to discover the soy crisps.

I also love munching on No Pudge brownies and all the great safe quick breads and muffins on the recipe index!

Oh yeah, and Rold Gold Honey Wheat Pretzel Twists. They have some whole wheat flour in them, but not enough to bother me, so I get some extra insolubles that way!

Jen,

I had my first angelfood post-ibs, too - this New Year's Eve. These days I snack on apple sauce (mott's healthy harvest strawberry flavor or applesauce and cinnamon - yum), heather's indian chai milk tea - smells really comforting, honey glazed rice chex (just spray with PAM, mix with honey and pop in microwave - there's a snack mix version of this in heather's book I adapted this from). I also like cream of rice or rose rice with soymilk topped with berries or bananas and chopped almonds. blender drinks are awesome 'cause you can't mess them up and there are endless possibilities. I liked the idea someone made of carrots and hummis 'cause I'm not doing well with bread these days. And I'm excited you're from Columbia, 'cause I'm in Baltimore, and I feel like there's no one on the boards around here. I saw a great concert in Columbia once, how do you like living there?

Kree, you don't have a bread maker?!? OMG! The way you love cooking, I'm amazed.

Well, Miss Chef, needless to say, GO GET ONE! Home made bread is TOO wonderful, and it makes a great gift. I made a loaf once and took it to my fave salon; the gals went crazy, you'd have thought I was giving them each a fortune -- they still talk about it. Not only did they enjoy the taste, but the smell permeated the salon the entire day. People love it when you bake them home made bread. And a bread maker allows you to whip up a loaf so fast and SOOOO easily -- you can experiment with different seasonings -- Kree, you're really missing out, believe me.

Goferit!

Kree, you need one! Love the bread machine bread. A family member uses it all of the time to make all kinds of breads, not to mention quick pizza dough and (yum!) pitas! Can't beat it as a time-saver, and the results are EXCELLENT!

Next purchase, though: ice cream maker, so I can make IBS-happy gelatos!

There's wheat flour in them, though, so beware Celiacs!
