I'm a hands down Sugarholic.I put about 3 tablespoons on my morning cereal, i have ensure (which is overpacked with sugar) I put like 5 tsp of sugar in my applesauce and I continuously eat sweets throughout the day. My question is : Is too much sugar bad for you? I know sucrose is okay for IBS (especially for me) but does it arrive other problems? Im trying to gain weight (without consuming fat) so is eating an excessive amount of sugar a good thing?

ensure has 6 grams of fat per can. i drink 1/2 in the morning and half at night, so im only getting 3 grams of fat from it at a time. ENsure has really helped me gain my weight back in a safe way. I went from 90 to 103 pounds in less than 2 months thanks to ensure

Angela I changed my post as I found out that Ensure doesn't seem to be high in fat. But what are the ingredients?

the ingrediants are:water, sucrose(sugar), maltodextrin(corn),calcium and sodium caseinates, safflower oil (like in rice milk), soy oil, canola oil, and a bunch of vitamins.

Im not sure about some IBSers, but i know it agrees with me very well. It tastes like a vanilla milkshake, it provides me with essential fat and plenty of those vitamins that i cant get enough of

It's absolutely OUT if you're sensitive to dairy!!! "Caseinates" are milk proteins; Ensure is not dairy-free by any means! The worst attack I've had this year was triggered by some Ensure a friend brought me when I was ill (with a cold, I think) and not eating. I felt awful for days. Just a heads up.

Angela,
To come back to your question - I think it's quite natural for you to crave sugar if you're underweight. I remember being in the same situation. When I finally discovered sugar wasn't a trigger I started eating some sweets (dinner mints!! I'll never forget!) and for a while I just worshipped sugar, it was giving me so much more energy. As I had been eating so very little I had problems with the necessary quantities of food, too. A few spoonfuls of rice and I was full. In that situation the sugar helped me out of the dumps into an upward spiral because somehow it enhanced my appetite which was at an alltime low (I think it has got something to do with blood sugar levels).

Now that I got closer to my normal weight the craving for sugar has gone back to normal levels, too.

However, you should keep in mind that sugar can make you addicted (blood sugar levels go up to high and then down too low, I think). Sugar is 'empty calories' and once you're back to a normal weight it would always be better to reduce the number of spoonfuls of sugar on your apple sauce (which will then be just a bad habit) and replace them with healthier food. Apart from that and it being bad for your teeth, I think sugar can also be bad if you've got PMS before your period, again because of its impact on blood sugar.
It is not difficult to wean yourself of too much sugar eventually as long as you go slowly and you're not too tough on yourself!

I think for now just trust your body and enjoy!
