http://www.drugstore.com/templates/stdplist/default.asp?catid=9322&aid=281067&aparam=58860 (scroll past the Immodium stuff) I wondered if the IBS stuff would help. Also has anyone taken the chewable fiber tablets? I was cocky the last two days b/c my stomach was relatively problem free and I definitely ate too much of the wrong stuff. I have to get on the straight and narrow after my bout with the "runs" today! YUK!

Hi Sandy,
I'm a D. I take Equalactin all the time. Heather introduced me to it. In addition to keeping it in the bathroom, I also keep a supply in the emergency medicine cabinet in my purse. It's a Godsend. I take it with my Donnatal when I have a severe attack because the Donnatal takes so long to "kick in," while the Equalactin is immediate.
However, when I've eaten the wrong stuff, and too much of it, I really don't expect either to help much; in that case, in addition to the Donnatal and Equalactin, I take a hot pad to bed with me, put it on my tummy and just sleep it off.

Hi...
So it helps if you've got an onset of D? ( I like that... "I'm a D"!) If I know I'm going out I'll take this medicine the doctor prescribed...it works pretty good. I don't want to use it all the time though. If I'm careful, then I just go a lot (not D but just lots!) Normally in the morning. Is that just something I'll have to live with? Also...do you know anything that helps with the gassiness? I sound like my 85 year old dad sometimes!
Thanks! I'm pretty new to all of this.... Sandy

Would this help with the constipation too? I know you're a D, but what do you think..

Hi again, Sandy,
If I am going to eat something that I know produces a lot of gas, I take Beano. Yesterday, for instance, I had Amy's frozen bean and rice burrito for dinner (only 20% fat, folks! ), so I took 3 Beanos with it. Normally, I would have been blowing all day -- but the Beano did the job.
Along with gas, I usually have a lot of bloating. I think Heather's fennel has helped me in that department; I brew it up with some of her incredible peppermint and have it with her marvelous acacia for my morning fiber fix. (Then I take the peppermint caps in the middle of the day.)
About those morning poops of yours -- that's when I have mine as well. I like it. I'm surprised you don't. I get up, have my acacia fix, and then I have my poops -- not D, just good healthy poops. Then I'm good to go. It's SOOOO much better than having urgent D throughout the day, Girlfriend! Actually, I think I have the probiotics to thank for that. It seems since I've been taking the Jarro my poops have been nice and firm and fully-packed. Before the Jarro, well, you don't wanna know.
Hope some of this helps, Sandy. If not, just scream.
Bev.

Does it help with constipation? Well, I wouldn't know from experience 'cause I'm a D. But this is what it says on the box of Equalactin:
"Irritable bowel, with symptoms of abdominal discomfort and alternating bouts of diarrhea and constipation, afflicts millions. It is caused by water imbalance in the bowel, which can be triggered by stress. Too much free water in the intestinal tract causes loose stools and diarrhea. Too little water in the bowel results in hard, dry stools, and constipation. Just 10% difference in the water content can tilt the balance between diarrhea and constipation. Equalactin provides relief by EQUALIZING the water balance to restore normal bowel movements. In the diarrhea stage of irritable bowel, Equalactin absorbs water and gives the stool bulk and substance, leading to normal bowel movements. In the constipation stage, Equalactin binds the water to the hard, dry stool, creating softer stools that are easier to pass. In whatever stage you take Equalactin, you can expect normal bowel movements in 12-72 hours. When you feel the onset of irritable bowel symptoms, take Equalactin to provide relief and to prevent the episode from becoming severe."
I got an introductory package of the stuff from Heather when I ordered her acacia -- so I tried it and liked it. I then tried to get some at the drug store, but they didn't have it -- however, they ordered it for me.
I like it.

Thank you, I've ordered the acacia but haven't received it yet, but maybe i'll try the equlactin after I try the acacia. I'm willing to try anything at this point... not pooping is killing me!

Thanks for your help!
I guess I don't mind pooping a lot in the am but sometimes I have to out...(take my son to school, do errands etc. ) and I don't feel I'm done yet and am so afraid of the urgency to go. ( I'm having fewer and fewer of those days though, thank God!) I have probiotics as well. How many do you take and how often?
Thanks again! Sandy

The acacia I take daily on good and bad days, as part of my regular ritual. The Equalactin I take only on bad days. Then when I have a full-fledge attack, I turn to the meds as well.
