Made it through day 9 but barely...

My tummy got a little grumbly after dinner last night and is still complaining this morning. I thought I was being real careful, but...back to the oatmeal! At least it wasn't a full fledged D attack, so my winning streak continues at 9 days!! YAY, ME!!!

Inquiring minds will want to know what I ate that might have caused it. My only deviation from the extra safe list was about 1 oz of plain grilled fish, which I ate with about one cup of couscous as soluble fiber and after my usual pre-dinner Metamucil "cocktail" as my hubby calls it! And I had peppermint tea after. Tummy's just not ready for protein yet I guess, although grilled fish has never been a problem for me before.

OR it could have been the bedtime snack of a granola bar. That's the second time this week a bedtime snack bothered me. The first time was the potato bread that I posted about. Again, granola bars have never bothered me -- they're one of my staples. Guess I'll cut out the bedtime snacks. I've learned that if I eat off-schedule, when my body isn't expecting it and hasn't produced the proper digestive juices in anticipation, I have problems. No wonder most of us lose weight on this diet!!

Or it could have been the snow, or it could have been the time of month, or it could have been the way I held my mouth!!! My husband works with computers and he and his friends say that certain computer problems are clearly caused by drinking Diet Coke rather than Diet Pepsi when working on them!! Go figure. Sometimes I think IBS is almost as random. There is no perfect knowledge. Oooh, I just found my signature quote!!!

Congratulations on making it this far!

I also have some IBS attacks and can't figure out why. Sometimes certain foods or snacks bother me and sometimes not at all. Metamucil always made me very gassy and bloated but the Acacia is not at all. Also once in a while I eat a granola bar but I think there are whole oats and maybe nuts in there that can be a trigger? Not sure on that one.

And if you would just stop holding your mouth the wrong way you would be fine! ha ha

I blame the granola bar. The percentage of fat in diffrent brands varies considerably, but generally they average around 35%, well over the 25% limit. While General Mills has come out with Oatmeal Crisp Fruit-n-Cereal Bars with only 2g. of fat and 150 calories (that's only 12% fat, folks, according to my handy dandy little calculator), the first ingredient in them is whole grain oats, then whole wheat.

For me, it's back to making my own incredible gingerbread muffins (thank you, Kree!), freezing them, then grabbing one in the morning on my way out the door.

Hi Laura! I have a couple of suggestions too. I agree with Bev, granola bars can be pretty risky sometimes. They contain some whole wheat ingredients and bother many people. Another big thing is getting to know when you can eat things that might bother you. Personally, I can't eat anything at all risky at night, even if I could have eaten that thing earlier in the afternoon. It seems like around 8 or 9 pm my tummy starts getting really touchy, so I try to eat lightly after that, only snacking on rice cakes or having a piece of safe quick bread and some herbal tea. Then again, I've heard of others who are just the opposite, and have trouble eating things in the morning. I guess it's all about learning what works best for your system!

Where you been, Girlfriend?!? Kree posted it in the recipe board on the 8th. She put a lemon glaze on it, but for us PURISTS -- and I mean PURISTS -- we don't want no nothin' disturbing the savory flavor of the ginger! I made them without the lemon, OF COURSE, and they're TO DIE FOR. My hubby and I are fighting over them. Say, I wonder how much fat's in 'em . . . KREE?

The granola bar I've been eating for years is a reduced fat one that clocks in at exactly 25% The label says 120 cal per bar, 30 from fat. So I tend to think it was the fact that I ate it so late. No more bedtime nummies for me!!

Thanks, everybody, for feedback. Tummy is still complaining. Dinner will be plain spaghetti and water!

Yours win. It's only fair to share. What's the brand? What's the flavor? And where do we get them?

I'll share but be warned, they do contain whole wheat and high fructose corn syrup. I didn't say they were perfect, nor am I!! They're Quaker Chewies, there are a lot of different flavors. They have saved my life many times when away from home and need to eat something relatively safe. Now don't jump on me, I know I shouldn't have eaten it last night!!

Oh yeah, see I don't check the recipe board much because I don't cook... I did give my husband the link though...
