Since the IBS has become more serious this last year, along came the bloating and pain which seems to always be there but also the weight gain. I dont know if once the bloating goes down there will be fat hanging out there too. I am an avid excercise person. Still do it, although at times I feel that it is not working on my gut area. Today is the first day of the new eating lifestyle, thanks to this website, and is wondering if the extra lbs. around the gut will go away. I do plan to excercise like I usually do, 3-4 times a week ( 30-40 mins. cardio plus weight traing).
Ive even quite taking birth control pills about a week ago to try to drop some weight before I found this informative site. Im getting depressed a bit. I want to be free of pain but want the fit body I had before. I dont want to sound superficial but being fit was a big part of my life.
Anyone with any input?
Masayo

Hi again, Masayo!

The weight gain isn't a symptom of IBS. A lot of folks here are actually losing weight. The bloating is just that -- it's not fat, it's bloating, and it comes and goes.

Keep up that exercise! I've had to drag myself to the gym when I've been in a lot of pain, and just had to work through it. Usually after a workout the pain is gone, believe it or not -- although, admittedly, it's not much of a fun workout. The exercise is crucial.

A lot of folks here swear by yoga. I'm not one of them -- I'm too old and rickety -- but if I could do it, I think I would because I can imagine how it would help relax the muscles.

And I think that's what you need most, from how your posts are sounding. Do you do meditation?

Are you drinking a lot of water? Taking in enough fiber? How much? What kind? Have you checked out Heather's tummy teas? Fennel and peppermint really do relieve the bloating and cramping. Are you keeping something in your tummy throughout the day instead of eating large meals? Are you concentrating on how much fat you're consuming with each meal?

We all want the fit body we had before -- all of us -- but we also want relief from the IBS. Don't put too much pressure on yourself, or the stress will work against your IBS. Remember, positive thoughts!

Bev

I too am trying to get rid of my middle. I think the weight for me came on because I would get depressed about my IBS and would eat to comfort me. Now that I know about this website and all of the information out there, I am trying not to eat when I get attacks. I also get bloated and when I look in the mirror, my gut is hanging out. That pouch in the front of me is more protrusive now than ever. Right now I am just trying to exercise more, and work on my cardio to drop some weight, especially around my middle. I just feel "fat" when I am bloated and gassy.

Thanks for the cheer ups! I feel better just by finding this website this morning and chatting with all of you. I do excercise still alot. I eat small more frequent meals. Some days when I dont feel as bloating I still see the lose blubbery skin that 7 months ago was a pretty good firm stomach. I am still alittle spanstic I guess trying to find the answers why its all happening. Only time and good decisions will help , and friends like you all.
IŽll keep you noted.
Thanks. Masayo

I am constantly looking in the mirror, especially when I am at the gym on the treadmill, to see if my belly has decreased. In response to the bloating, I actually find that working out helps get rid of my bloating. It's hard to run when I'm bloated, but when I do, and I finish my workout, I usually forget about my bloating! Welcome to the website! It has helped me so much!

Yes, it is very possible to lose weight on this diet. It's healthy, low fat eating which is good for everyone. You should have no trouble once you get used to the diet and feeling better. As for the bloating, try fennel tea, and make sure you are chewing thoroughly and eating slowly. A brisk walk after meals will help aid digestion and curb the bloating. Be aware of hidden ingredients that cause bloating - check out the info on the website for food triggers. Welcome to the diet and the board! Don't be depressed - you will feel better soon!

Masayo, good luck. I too just found this website recently and it's wonderful!

I get terrible bloating, too. Sometimes I look like I'm four months pregnant, when I'm not!! I get so uncomfortable I have to undo my jeans and let my shirt hang over it so no one sees!

Hang in there,
Laura

If your doing the teas for bloating and so forth, consider a probiotic? This can help the IBS and especially the bloating and gas and distened stomach.
