I have heard about so many different medications while reading postings. I suffer from severe IBS-C and have for many years. Can anyone recommend or at least tell me some of the medications that they have used and the results? My doctor is a little hesitant to send me to a specialist to check out medications, but I think it would be a good idea.

Have not yet tried it but my MD just raved about Miralax. Said it is not a stimulant, but regulates water fow in the colon, thus is very gentle but effective. My MD believs that people who have C then a painful diarhhea attack are haivng the diarrhea in reaction to the constipation not a food....Anyway...MIralax ia all I can think of roght now....

Not so far for IBS...My Dr has just reently decided it is a possibility. And I am taking Citrucel daily along with watching my diet and having an endoscope for the next 3 weeks. He will reevaluate me after that..but he did mention that he may want to add Miralax if the citrucel doesnt work. Oh and I also started Efexxor for stress/amxiety. Apparently they can turn mild stomach problems into more severe stomach problems....Again there is alot of info on here if you do a search with no time limit on any subject...I have fund out lot that way..of course i am asking alot of questions too... everyonr is really nice and helpful...Good luck

Well this isn't an actual medication, but I take a combination of stool softeners and magnesium(in the form of magnesium oxide pills). I'm trying to get up enough fiber to do away with the stool softeners, but magnesium is a natural laxative, I recommend trying it. Try about 500mg and see how it is.

Definitely a good idea to see the specialist. If you don't have a diagnosis yet, GET ONE. Also, many people on this board have been successful at recovering and feeling better by the use of this diet and a fiber supplement. Just something to think about. I used to take meds (although I'm not IBS-C) - and I don't need them anymore.
