That's great. Sounds like a great class, and Amen....finally someone that knows a lot about nutrition....

Speaking of dairy, did you get your son off dairy or is he still fighting you? Maybe his little body just needs more calcium????

Hope you will enjoy your other classes as well...

He is getting better. He like drinking soy smoothies and eating soy yogruat. His doctor told him you eat cereal with orange juice and he tried that and it didn't go too well.

He is a good veggie eater and we eat alot of greens around here. He also drinks orange juice with calcium in it. If it is determined he is lactose intol. I'm sure his doctor will have good suggestions for us to make sure he gets his calcium.

Thanks for asking.

Barb,

I'm so glad you found the root of you son's problem and he is feeling better. Being lactose intolerant is hard I'm sure. Glad he likes the alternatives. Does he like chocolate? Maybe the chocolate rice/almond or soy beverages would go over better on his cereal?-----it beats OJ any day!!! The little 8 oz. aseptic pkgs of milk alternatives are handy take-alongs and the chocolate flavored ones are sure good.

When you do your research look at the XO factor in dairy. It's information that's been out a good ten years or more but little known to most people. A Google search will turn up all you need.

Educate me here, if you will, since I'm not up on being lactose intolerant. Does WHEY PROTEIN fall in the group of dairy no-no's for lactose intolerant folks? I know it's a trigger for many IBS sufferers, but that's about it.

Continued good luck with your studies……………..How's the new job going?

I checked the XO factor and very interesting reading. Can not wait to show my teacher on Monday and my son's doctor next month for his follow up appt.

I shared the info. with my husband and he was surprised too. He took Nurtition in College and he wasn't aware of the XO factor.

I'm not lactose intolerant myself, but maybe I am. I deal with more C and I believe it is the whey and casein that are the problem. My son has the same bowel habits as me, so I'm not convinced he is latcose intol. - more likely it is the whey or casein.

I will research the topic. I'll start a new thread too - maybe Heather or Shawn Eric can answer your question.

I start my job on Monday, so I don't expect to be on too much next week. I'll be more of a lurker at night.

Hi Barb,

Glad you found the XO factor of interest. It may be controversial to some, I don't know, but it sure makes sense to me. All the many nutrition college classes I had, a million years ago, concentrated only on nutrition basics and such things as special needs diets. A lot, a WHOLE lot has changed since then.

Thanks for posting the question I had about whey (and casein). I'm not lactose intolerant either, but have given up all forms of it except for whey. I have NO problem with whey, and I'm a C. It doesn't make my "C" worse or better. I've tested it. There is one whey protein powder mix on the market I drink that just makes me feel good-good-good and does anything but throw me into an attack, in fact, quite the reverse.
But here again, we're ALL different as to what is a trigger and what isn't.

Whew, you right you won't have much time for the boards once you start your new job!!!! That and school and a family???? I don't know how you do it, but we here are all proud of you for it.

BEvRS; iAM SURPRISED you didn't GAIN weight with all those calories, it sounds like a very unhealthy diet overall. I wonder why it is so popular with that in mind.

Because it's not just lactose that you can be intolent of, sometimes it's the milk altogether. Like personally, if I drink Lactaid milk it still kills my stomach, and Lactaid pills do nothing for me. I'm just intolerent of milk altogether.
