Was anyone able to tolerate foods, then gradually unable to? I'm wondering, because right now I can tolerate pizza, but not sure if it will last. Well, I was able to eat everything at one time, then within a short period of time that was the end of that. But for me, there is a select few things that don't get to me, but I'm not sure if I'm just at the beginning stages and then things will just get worse. Any thoughts?

Yep. I used to be able to drink a couple of glasses of wine with dinner. Then I could drink one. Then I could drink a sip or two. Now I can drink none.

I haven't had any problems with wine yet...I love wine! I will be sad if I have to give it up...is that recommended for IBS?

Yep, us with IBS aren't supposed to have any alcohol. People around here will tell you they cheat... some (not naming any names) even like to have Jack Daniels once in awhile after a lot of soluable fiber. But I don't cheat. It makes me violently ill!

Thanks for the advice...I may have to have a glass here and there before I can't tolerate it anymore. I hope that day never comes, but I will be prepared anyhow. There's so much to give up...this is going to be a tough change for me.

Sometimes I can have up to two glasses with a meal. I have known this even before finding this website. Sometimes I get a reaction after just a few sips. So I think my wine drinking is dependent on stress level or if I am having an attack even a small one.
This week I had a glass each night from a bottle of white wine that my son had made and gave me for Christmas. I had no problems with it. Of course it had no sulfites being homebrewed so it makes me curious that the preservative in wines could play a role in attacks.

I'm the guilty party to whom she refers.

Yeah, ya gotta give up stuff. I gave up so much, it's unbelievable what I used to eat. Okay, and DRINK. Yeah, I like my Jack -- but now I have to limit it to only ONE, and sometimes not even that. Last night, my hubby had one and asked if I'd like one too, I could tell my tummy wasn't up for it, and I said no. (I did have a few sips of his, though. )

I think our bodies stop being able to digest stuff once we give them up for good. When I gave up broccoli (which always gave me a little problem), then tried having just a little of it -- oh MAN! -- I almost EXPLODED!

Now, about my having to give up my beloved coffee -- lets not go there.

Dolphin, just remember to have your soluble fiber beforehand! A French roll maybe -- or some rice -- or potato -- this is REAL important. And try to limit it to only one drink. For me, it helped to have another slice of sourdough bread WITH my Jack.

When I am bad (don't tell ChinaGirl!) and have -- heaven forbid -- TWO Jacks, I pay the price for it BIG TIME. When you have an attack like mine, believe me you don't want to repeat it -- the booze just ain't worth it -- not even my beloved Jack!

Nah... I'm just jealous. I loved red wine so much. And raspberry martinis. Man I miss those.
