Do Peppermint Capsules cause constipation?

I am wondering if anyone thinks the peppermint caps cause them to "slow down" enough that it is a problem?

I have NO IDEA what issue causes what symptoms with my body. I just know I have pelvic organ prolapse since my last birth, and I also have what my doctor calls "IBS". I'm doing lots of things with my diet, supplements, and lifestyle, and fitness to help myself.

I still have issues.

My issues are now mostly that I have several small, soft stools a day. In between I have a lot of urge to defecate and it doesn't seem like I can really go, though. Tenesmus is what is is called, I think. And I have problems initiating and completing a bowel movement. And I do NOT have hard stools.

Some days are worse than others.

When it gets really bad, I will have rectal and anal sensations even upon drinking a glass of water!!!

Almost every time I eat I will have a response from my rectum very soon thereafter of either pressure, fullness, twitches, or gas needing to pass. I even have a hard time passing gas out of my rectum.

When it gets bad to the point that I respond to even a glass of water with rectal sensations, then I start on peppermint caps and it seems to calm that, but it can almost make me feel MORE constipated.

So, it's like I'm constipated, but I still go a lot during the day.

Not what most people think of as "constipation".

Do you all think the peppermint caps are a good or bad thing for me?

I take the acacia fiber and it does help.

I also take magnesium or else I can't pass even soft stool and then I feel just horrible and will get low back pain from stool and gas getting trapped.

I do have some food triggers I try to stay away from, and I have to watch my stress levels. I have to stay away from anything that gives me gas as my symptoms are then ten times worse.

I have no idea if the misery I feel is my prolapse or my IBS.

My health issues are completely confusing to me.

I figured this message board was the best place to ask about the peppermint caps. IF you have anything else to add, I'm ALL EARS.

Thanks.

I have a very similar situation. I cannot take peppermint caps...they feel kind of like they explode in the stomach; it's a crazy feeling. Right now I'm working with a holistic practitioner to find the root of my problems. I feel IBS is just a blanket name traditional docs give to anyone with gut problems and are not knowledgeable at all. How can they be when they get only four hours of nutritional training during med school?

I TOTALLY agree with you sharond on the training of doctors on nutrition!

PRAYING you get outstanding results with your holistic practitioner!!!

Originally diagnosed with IBS-C in Spring, 2008. During spring to fall of 2008, had at least 10 acupuncture treatments and Chinese herbs. IBS went into remission. IBS returned in late July 2013 after taking 2 oral contrasts for a CT scan for cancer follow up. Had more acupuncture with different practitioner in summer 2014, but received little benefit.
