I know that fat is a digestive trigger, sending some into bouts of diarrhea, and some into constipation. BUT, my question is why...what is it about fat that does this? Can the body build back its tolerance for fat (I used to do much better with it, even after being diagnosed and living with IBS for many years). Is saturated fat harder to tolerate, meaning are all fats equal or some easier to digest than others? Lastly, we know that SIBO can cause one to have diarrhea and another constipation..other than that, what makes the difference in reaction?
thanks so much!

I just make sure I take my soluble fiber before ANYTHING I eat and eat more of the unsaturated fats at about 25% of the total calories in small meals. Less inflammatory I think for one thing. Saturated fats are worse for my upper GI problems anyway that started with the IBS-D.

Thanks! I was pretty sure there was a connection between digestion and different kinds of fats...I do ok with avocado, and certain others...I need to track what works and what does not to be sure of the correlation.

It's in The First Year: IBS book by Heather referenced here on this site that contains excerpts..maybe about fat's effects. I don't know why some react with d or c or alternating. The rules for IBS are on that cheat sheet too on this site. Eating most of fats in a meal first instead of last and especially eating big amounts at one sitting is possibly for many going to cause ibs spasms and is not healthy anyway.
