I would like to share my remedy for IBS constipation. It works like a charm.

Every day:

- drink lots of water (spring water is always best for IBS)

- eat cooked organic beets (peeled and boiled ... beets are a root vegetable that is safe for IBS and it is a natural laxative ... you will need to do some experimentation to see how much you need to eat to solve your IBS-C)

- eat a raw organic apple (peeled and cored .... only if you can tolerate a raw apple)

- eat cooked organic apples (peeled and cored) baked until cooked with water and plain organic oatmeal (buy the oatmeal from a health food store, do NOT eat Quaker Oats) ... make sure the oatmeal is full cooked.

The above will solve your IBS-C in most cases. :-)

Beets and apples are high FODMAP foods known to worsen IBS symptoms in many people. These foods are not the ideal way to manage C. Try adding ground flaxseed (linseed) to your diet. It has been clinically shown to be effective

Acacia on this website is ALL soluble-shown clinically to be effective, is for both diarrhea and constipation, has a slow fermentation rate, not causing me excess gas or spasming.

I wouldn't go by FODMAPs. I understand there are some issues with that diet.

There are no issue with the diet. In fact it in the some countries like the UK & Australia doctors refer IBS patients to dietitians trained in the FODMAP approach And it use in the US is increasing rapidy. Currently many tens of thousands of IBS suffers around the world have been using the clinically proven FODMAP approach for nearly a decade.

If there are no issues with the FODMAPS diet, why would some folks need to do this diet with the FODMAPS diet?

common IBS trigger foods too. For example in one of the earlier research papers (second link in my signature) the Monash group says

"If adherence was strict, attention may be needed to modify intake of resistant starch and insoluble and soluble fiber. Other dietary triggers such as food chemicals may need to be considered, as should potential factors such as caffeine, fat, meal size and regularity."

One of the reasons they recommend using a dietitian to guide one through the use of this diet is because they are usually familiar with these common IBS trigger as well as the FODMAP approach.

BTW - the FODMAP diet is not new. All the Monash researchers did was take what had been know for decades about food constituents that are easily and rapidly fermentable in the colon and bring this information together under a single umbrella that they named high FODMAPs and then try some well-designed and controlled clinical studies on IBS patients
